2020 Master's Degree Admissions Retest Program and Retest Notice of the Department of Marxist Studies, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (Graduate School)
In accordance with the "Notice of the General Office of the Ministry of Education on Conducting the 2020 National Master's Graduate Admission Retest Work" (Jiao Xue Ting [2020] No. 4) and relevant requirements from the Beijing Municipal Admissions and Examination Committee, and in integration with the "University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences 2020 Master's Graduate Admission Retest and Enrollment Work Plan" and the specific circumstances of this Department, the 2020 Master's Graduate Admission Retest Work Plan and Retest Notice for the Department of Marxism Studies of the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (Graduate School) [1] is hereby formulated as follows:
I. Retest Organization and Management This Department has established and perfected its organizational management structure, forming a Retest Work Group led by the Department Head and consisting of no fewer than three individuals, with the participation of personnel from relevant discipline inspection departments. Under the guidance of the Retest Work Group, a Marxism Theory Discipline Retest Group has been established, consisting of no fewer than five members. Guided by the Department’s Retest Work Group, the Retest Group is responsible for determining the specific content, grading standards, and procedures for evaluating candidates' interviews and practical abilities, ensuring the smooth implementation of remote online retests. The 2020 master's admission retest and enrollment work of this Department will make relevant preparations and emergency response plans in accordance with the school's overall requirements for pandemic prevention and control [2].
II. Retest Work Requirements We shall establish a scientific concept of talent selection, strengthen the comprehensive assessment of the retest, and emphasize the equal importance of assessing both ability and knowledge. Efforts will be focused on examining the candidates' innovative spirit and capacity, professional interests, and academic accomplishments. Attention must be paid to the candidates' consistent performance, valuing both the results of the initial examination [3] as well as past academic performance and potential capabilities. We shall fully utilize and standardize the role of the supervisor cohort in the retest selection process, further clarifying their academic authority and responsibilities, improving their ability to select talent in a scientific and standardized manner, and continuously increasing the quality of talent selection.
Integrity evaluation shall be strengthened, and requirements regarding candidate integrity shall be reinforced. Candidates who cheat will be handled severely. For those who practice fraud or violate examination regulations, regardless of when the determination is made, they will be strictly dealt with in accordance with the "Measures for Handling Violations of National Education Examinations" and the "Regulations on the Management of Students in Regular Institutions of Higher Education."
III. Retest Preparation Work (1) Selection of Retest Faculty This Department selects personnel who possess a strong sense of responsibility, high academic standards, and upright character to participate in the retest work, strictly enforcing admissions discipline. Any violations of admissions discipline will be discovered promptly, corrected resolutely, and handled seriously. (2) Qualifications Review Prior to the retest, this Department conducted a strict review of candidate qualifications. Staff from the Department of Marxism Studies notified candidates participating in the retest via telephone and email, informing them of the materials to be submitted. Candidates must guarantee the authenticity of the submitted materials; if materials cannot be submitted in a timely manner due to special impacts such as the pandemic, an explanation must be provided to the Department.
Should the Department of Marxism Studies have questions regarding a candidate's academic credentials (student status) information, the candidate must provide authentication documentation issued by an authoritative institution as required. The ethnicity field in the online registration information must match the ethnicity indicated on the Resident Identity Card and may not be changed during the retest. Candidates eligible for bonus point policies as stipulated by the Ministry of Education must submit a written application and relevant supporting materials to this Department.
Candidates participating in this Department's retest should carefully read the "Instructions for Candidates of the 2020 Master's Admissions Remote Online Retest of the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences," install and debug the equipment used for the remote retest in advance as required, ensure that contact methods remain open, and cooperate with the Department in testing the remote retest system and participating in rehearsal training to ensure the normal conduct of the retest.
IV. Retest Work Procedures (1) Retest Score Requirements The initial examination scores of candidates entering the retest for the Department of Marxism Studies must not be lower than the score thresholds stipulated in the "Basic Requirements for Initial Examination Scores of Candidates Entering Retest for the 2020 National Master's Graduate Admissions Examination (Academic Degree Category)." The 2020 master's admissions for this Department will implement a differential retest [4]; 11 candidates reached the score threshold, and 8 will be selected for admission based on merit after the retest. (2) Retest Assessment Methods The 2020 master's graduate admission retest work of this Department will be conducted via remote online retest, primarily including a Professional Comprehensive Ability Interview and a Foreign Language Comprehensive Ability Test (including listening, speaking, and translation skills).
- Foreign Language Comprehensive Ability Test time: May 18, 2020, 9:00 AM.
- Professional Comprehensive Ability Interview time: May 19, 2020, 9:00 AM.
- The professional course additional examination for candidates with equivalent educational attainment [5] will begin at 1:00 PM on May 18, conducted via online video-monitored testing. Examination subjects: Classical Marxist Works and the History of Scientific Socialism. The full score for each individual subject is 100 points, with an examination duration of 2 hours.
- During the retest, the Retest Group will focus on examining the candidates' ideological and political qualities and moral character during the interview. Assessment content includes the candidate's political attitude, ideological performance, moral character, law-abiding nature, and honesty/trustworthiness. Those who fail the ideological and moral character assessment will not be admitted. (3) Primary Content of the Retest Based on cultivation goals and disciplinary characteristics, we will strengthen the assessment of candidates' professional abilities, aptitudes, innovative spirit, innovative capacity, and comprehensive quality. The retest primarily includes two basic aspects: professional quality and ability, and comprehensive quality and ability. Professional Quality and Ability: (1) Undergraduate study status and grades; (2) Undergraduate graduation thesis and published papers; (3) The candidate's mastery of theoretical knowledge and applied skills in this discipline (major), the ability to use learned theories to discover, analyze, and solve problems, understanding of the developmental trends of this discipline, and potential for development in this professional field; (4) Foreign Language Comprehensive Ability Test (including "minor languages"), including listening and speaking abilities; (5) Innovative spirit and innovative capacity. Comprehensive Quality and Ability: (1) Ideological and political quality, moral character, and humanistic literacy, etc.; (2) Performance in studies outside this discipline (major), scientific research, social practice (student work, club activities, volunteer service, etc.), or actual work experience; (3) Career ambition, sense of responsibility, sense of discipline (law-abiding), cooperativeness, and psychological health, etc. (4) Ideological and Political Quality/Moral Character Assessment and Physical Examination During the retest period, candidates should submit ideological and political quality and moral character appraisal materials issued by the Party organization (Party Committee, Sub-Party Committee, or Party Branch), personnel department, or political work department of their current unit or the unit where their files are stored. The ideological and political quality and moral character assessment will not be quantified into the total score, but those who fail the assessment will not be admitted. Uniform physical examinations will not be organized during the retest stage. Depending on the development of the pandemic and the progress of retest work, before the conclusion of the overall retest work, candidates intended for admission shall undergo a physical examination at a local Grade II Class A hospital [6] or above and mail the physical examination form to this Department. Those who do not undergo a physical exam, fail the exam, or are found to have practiced fraud during the exam will not be admitted or will have their admission eligibility revoked. New students must participate in the school's unified enrollment physical examination upon reporting for registration; those who fail will be handled according to relevant regulations. (5) Grading and Calculation of Results The total entrance examination score for master's admissions in the Department of Marxism Studies is the sum of the initial examination score (500 points total) and the retest score (250 points total). The priority for admission will be determined by the ranking of the total entrance examination score. The retest score is the sum of the Professional Comprehensive Ability Interview (200 points) and the Foreign Language Comprehensive Ability Test (50 points); the total retest score is 250 points, with a passing line of 150 points. Those who do not pass will not be admitted. Scores for the additional courses for candidates with equivalent educational attainment are not included in the retest score, but those who fail (with a passing line of 60 points for a single subject) will not be admitted. (6) Time and Method of Information Disclosure The Department of Marxism Studies will promptly release relevant information regarding the 2020 master's graduate retest and admission in accordance with relevant requirements for graduate admission examinations. Information disclosure website: Marxism Research Network (http://myy.cssn.cn/). Disclosure times: The retest work plan, initial examination scores of participating candidates, and the retest list will be disclosed before the retest; retest results (rankings) will be disclosed after the retest ends; the list of candidates intended for admission will be disclosed before June 12, 2020 (after which the University Admissions Office will uniformly conduct a public notice for no fewer than 10 working days). After the public notice concludes, the university will report the list of intended admissions to the "Graduate Admissions Information Disclosure Platform" for record-filing and review as required and disclose it to the public. Candidates who have not undergone public notice and record-filing shall not be admitted, and their student status will not be registered. (7) Transfer (Adjustments) Candidates not admitted to this Department after the retest may apply for transfer to other admitting units as soon as possible through the "National Master's Graduate Admission Transfer Service System" on China Graduate Admissions Information Network (yz.chsi.com.cn). The transfer system is expected to open around May 20, 2020. Specific requirements and methods for using the system can be found in the instructions of the relevant columns on the website.
