Call for Papers: Academic Seminar on "Reform and Opening-up in the New Era and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era" and "Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone"

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. General Secretary Xi Jinping personally visited Shenzhen and delivered an important speech, in which he spoke highly of the brilliant achievements attained by the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. He profoundly summarized the precious experience accumulated during the rapid takeoff of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone over its 40 years of reform and opening up, made major strategic deployments for its future development, and expressed high hopes for the Zone. He expects the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone to hold high the banner of reform and opening up in the New Era, continue to carry forward the Special Economic Zone spirit of "daring to break through and experiment, daring to be the first in the world, and working hard in silence" [1], strive to continue writing more "Stories of Spring" [2], and strive to create new and even greater miracles that will make the world look on with fresh eyes!

New positioning, new goals, new tasks, and new expectations. In order to deeply study and grasp the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech, comprehensively summarize the experience accumulated during the takeoff of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone over its 40 years of reform and opening up, and look forward to its future development trends, the Institute of Contemporary Chinese Thought and Culture (affiliated with the School of Marxism at Shenzhen University), jointly established by the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Shenzhen University, intends to convene an academic symposium in December this year titled "Restarting Reform and Opening Up in the New Era and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era" and "Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone." This symposium will closely revolve around the theme of the conference, focusing on the following research areas:

  1. Analysis of the reasons for the world-renowned achievements of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.
  2. Research on the precious experience accumulated by the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone over 40 years of reform and opening up.
  3. Research on the construction of socialist spiritual civilization [3] in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.
  4. Research on the construction of the Pilot Demonstration Zone of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics [4].
  5. Research on the "Special Economic Zone spirit."
  6. Research on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the deepening of reform and opening up in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.
  7. The Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
  8. The Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
  9. Research on the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
  10. The Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and strengthening the "Four Confidences" [5].
  11. Research on the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and the modernization of governance capacity.
  12. Research on the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and the theory and practice of "One Country, Two Systems."

We sincerely invite experts, scholars, and graduate students engaged in research in the above fields to actively submit papers.

Manuscript requirements: All submitted papers must be original, unpublished works, within 10,000 words, and should include an author biography, abstract, keywords, main text, and references. The theme must be distinct, the viewpoints correct, and citations accurate.

All submissions will be reviewed by relevant experts, and selected papers will be published in a symposium collection after the meeting. We welcome everyone to participate actively; the specific time and format of the meeting (on-site or online via Tencent Meeting, etc.) will be released in a timely manner via official notification.
