The organizers are the World Socialism Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the Institute of Marxism Studies, and the Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

Introduction to the 2020-2021 Yellow Book on World Socialism This book is the 17th volume in the series Yellow Book on World Socialism: Tracking Research Reports on World Socialism—Listen to the New Tide Rising from the Trough ^[5], organized by the World Socialism Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

This volume is a compilation of authoritative, cutting-edge, and representative research results from the World Socialism Research Center for the 2020–2021 period. Across eight sections, the book conducts multi-perspective, deep-level, and comprehensive research and discussions on contemporary global socialist trends, theories, movements, and systems. It reflects the latest developments in world socialism and related research—specifically in Asia, Europe, and the Americas—and presents numerous weighty theoretical articles. It is of significant benefit for deepening the exploration and practice of socialist theory.

↩ [1] 新发展阶段 (xīn fāzhǎn jiēduàn): The "New Development Stage" refers to the period in which China, having completed the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects, begins the journey toward fully building a modern socialist country. It is a specific periodization within the primary stage of socialism.

↩ [2] 两个一百年 (liǎng gè yì bǎi nián): The "Two Centenary Goals." The first is to finish building a moderately prosperous society in all respects by the centenary of the CPC (2021); the second is to build China into a modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful by the centenary of the People's Republic of China (2049).

↩ [3] 世界百年未有之大变局 (shìjiè bǎinián wèiyǒu zhī dà biànjú): "Changes unseen in a century." A concept used by the CPC to describe the current global shift in power dynamics (specifically the rise of the "Global South" and the relative decline of Western hegemony), technological revolution, and the restructuring of international systems.

↩ [4] 四史 (sì shǐ): Referring to the "Four Histories." In 2020-2021, the CPC launched a major ideological campaign encouraging the study of these four specific historical areas to bolster "ideological security" and reinforce the Party’s legitimacy.
