Announcement on the 2021 Summer Camp for Outstanding Undergraduates of the School of Marxism, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences

The School of Marxism at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (UCASS) is a secondary college specialized in teaching and scientific research for Ideological and Political Theory courses [1] and disciplines related to Marxist theory. The School possesses a profound academic heritage and formidable strength in teaching and research, serving as a strategic center for the cultivation of Marxist theoretical talent, pedagogical research, theoretical innovation, and the inheritance and development of Marxist thought in China. The Dean is concurrently held by Professor Xin Xiangyang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).

In September 2020, following the intensified deployment of the university’s “Double First-Class” [2] construction plan, a new School of Marxism was established through the deep integration of the Institute of Marxism Studies of CASS and the School of Marxism of UCASS. It possesses four domestically superior disciplines—Basic Principles of Marxism, Research on the Sinicization of Marxism, Foreign Marxism, and the History of the People's Republic of China—as well as seven key disciplines, including the History of Marxist Development, the International Communist Movement, and Ideological and Political Education. The School edits and publishes several important academic journals, such as Marxist Studies (Mǎkèsīzhǔyì Yánjiū), World Socialism Studies (Shìjiè Shèhuìzhǔyì Yánjiū), Science and Atheism (Kēxué yǔ Wúshénlùn), and International Critical Thought (Guójì Sīxiǎng Pínglùn). It hosts over 20 branded international and domestic academic conferences, including the "International Forum on Socialism" and the "National Forum for Deans of Schools of Marxism." It has established 27 major innovation platforms, including the Innovation and Development Center for Ideological and Political Work in Higher Education Institutions under the Ministry of Education and the Beijing Municipal Center for Humanities and Social Science Research. Over the past five years, faculty members have published over 1,000 articles as first authors in authoritative and core journals, published more than 140 academic monographs, and undertaken over 90 national-level projects, including Major Projects of the National Social Science Fund. It has received over 70 major social science achievement awards from the Ministry of Education, CASS, and Beijing Municipality, maintaining a leading position nationwide.

The School features high-tier talent cultivation and an early start in the field, possessing first-class domestic resources for training undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students in Marxist theory. It shoulders the glorious mission of implementing "the Integration of Science and Education" and the "Undergraduate-Master-Doctoral Integration" for training specialized Marxist theoretical talents. The School offers two undergraduate majors—Marxist Theory and Ideological and Political Education—alongside a complete training system for master’s and doctoral graduate students. It was the earliest in the country to recruit graduate students in the field of Marxism and among the first to recruit undergraduates in the Marxist Theory major, boasting over 30 years of experience in undergraduate training for the Ideological and Political Education major. It recruits master’s and doctoral students across six sub-disciplines under the first-level discipline [3] of Marxist Theory and trains postdoctoral researchers. Ideological and Political Education is a national-level first-class undergraduate major, and "Situation and Policy" [4] has been selected as a first-class course by the Ministry of Education. Starting in 2014, the School undertook the heavy responsibility of the "Key Talent Program for Marxist Theory" doctoral training project of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee [5]. To date, it has recruited and trained over 800 doctoral students, exerting significant influence across the country.
