The Sinicization Branch Convened an Organizational Life Meeting

On the afternoon of January 20, 2022, the Sinicization Party Branch held an organizational life meeting [1] (an enlarged branch meeting) in Conference Room 1237. Attendees included the leadership of the Institute who maintain liaison [2] with the Sinicization Branch, all Party members, and three activists [3]. The meeting was presided over by He Xinyuan, the Branch Secretary, and Vice Dean Lin Jianhua attended and delivered a speech.

Lin Jianhua, Vice Dean of the Institute of Marxism Studies, Delivers a Speech

He Xinyuan reported on the overall work of the Sinicization Branch for the year 2021. Vice Dean Lin Jianhua put forward requirements and expectations for the work of the Sinicization Branch, including every Party member and activist, from three perspectives. First, improve political standing, maintain theoretical positioning, and implement the "one post, two responsibilities" [4] system. Second, make full use of the broad platforms of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the Institute of Marxism Studies (IMS) to focus on hot topics as well as major theoretical and practical issues, and to do a good job in the research, interpretation, and propagation of Marxist theory and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Third, strengthen team consciousness, work together to tackle key problems, improve executive capacity, and ensure that while top-notch talents are produced, no one is left behind. Fourth, engage in scientific planning—being "fully aware of the situation" [5]—to strengthen advantages, remedy weaknesses, and achieve sustainable development. He emphasized that every Party member must take the lead and set an example, while also actively assisting comrades with weaker adaptability in scientific research.

Speeches by Members of the Branch Committee

Branch Committee members Shen Yang, Huang Yanhong, and Zhu Jidong each reported on their work over the past year from the perspectives of branch work, standards for Party members, and research department tasks. Shen Yang expressed that in 2022, he would further improve the unity of the research department and enhance cohesion. Huang Yanhong stated the need to transform work mindsets and do a good job in planning, communication, and coordination. Zhu Jidong expressed the intention to further explore ways to integrate Party group activities with research department work through "re-reading the Selected Works of Mao Zedong" [6] activities to produce more results.

A Warm Atmosphere at the Meeting

Other Party members and activists summarized their work over the past year, conducted criticism and self-criticism [7], and proposed ideas for the work in 2022. While affirming the branch’s work in 2021, everyone also offered suggestions for the 2022 work plan. For instance, Qin Yicheng suggested inheriting the Party's fine tradition of criticism and self-criticism while also paying attention to the "art of criticism." Fang Tao pointed out that comrades in the Sinicization Department have undertaken a significant amount of work, including various assigned tasks, which should be reflected in a timely manner. Peng Haihong suggested carrying forward the fine traditions of the Sinicization Department by "going out" more often to conduct activities, providing more opportunities for young people to showcase themselves, and strengthening emotional communication to further enhance the cohesion of the Sinicization Department. Zhang Jiansong suggested that the branch carry out "pairing" [8] activities to help comrades who publish fewer articles. Meng Qingyou suggested the branch organize a visit to the Museum of the Communist Party of China for study. Han Qi suggested that the branch conduct one or two "highlight" activities each year and use display boards and other forms for promotion. Branch Secretary He Xinyuan provided specific comments and relevant suggestions on each member's summary and self-criticism.

Concluding Remarks by Branch Secretary He Xinyuan

In concluding the meeting, He Xinyuan pointed out: First, the forms of the "Theme Party Day" activities in 2022 can be made more flexible and diverse, including carrying them out in the form of Party groups. The "Selected Works of Mao Zedong" reading club can be expanded to the entire Sinicization Department, encouraging young comrades to combine building a solid theoretical foundation with publishing articles. The "Micro-Salons" of the Research Department for Socialism with Chinese Characteristics should be launched as soon as possible, and department academic reports should take on new forms. Second, every Party member and activist must actively maintain collective honor and create a good atmosphere for research and work, so that every member can benefit. Third, time consciousness must be strengthened; assigned tasks must be completed on time and with high quality, and collective work must not be affected by the delay of a single individual. Fourth, the heads of research departments must undertake the responsibility of team building, play their roles effectively, and proactively manage attendance. Fifth, the Institute of Marxism Studies is both a research institution and a political organ [9]; every researcher must effectively implement the "one post, two responsibilities" system. Sixth, carry forward the fine traditions of the Sinicization Department: not only "going down" (to the grassroots), "going in" (deep into the subject), and "going out" (for outreach), but also "bringing up"—enabling young people to grow as quickly as possible.
