The Mao Zedong Thought Research Office Holds Mid-year Promotion Meeting for Research Office and Discipline Construction

To better advance the development of the Research Office and its academic discipline, the Mao Zedong Thought Research Office [1] convened a semi-annual promotion meeting for office and disciplinary construction on the morning of June 22. All members of the Mao Zedong Thought Research Office attended the meeting. Based on individual reports and presentations, the meeting conducted an in-depth summary of the office’s work and disciplinary development during the first half of 2022, while planning and arranging various tasks for the second half of the year. Researcher Zhu Jidong, Director of the Mao Zedong Thought Research Office, presided over the meeting, and Researcher He Xinyuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Marxism Sinicization, attended by invitation.

Researchers from the Mao Zedong Thought Research Office, including Zhu Jidong, Wang Yonghao, Yu Xiaolei, and Yang Junfeng, each reported on the completion status of their respective tasks for 2022. In particular, they provided detailed introductions to the writing progress of the History of the Development of Mao Zedong Thought volume—a component of the "History of the Development of Marxism," which is a key project under the CASS Innovation Program [2]. They also discussed their individual work plans for the second half of the year and the expected quantity of academic outputs. According to the summary, office members published several papers in core journals [3] such as People’s Tribune and the Journal of China Jinggangshan Academy of Leadership [4] during the first half of the year. Furthermore, members serving as chief experts successfully applied for and established a National Social Science Fund Major Project to research and interpret the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee [5]. Other projects—including National Social Science Fund Key Projects, General Projects, Late-stage Projects, and Major Projects of the CASS Project to Study and Build Marxist Theory [6]—are progressing smoothly. Base construction has been further deepened, and key scientific research tasks are being completed successfully.

Following the summary of the first half of the year and the planning for the second half, all comrades of the Mao Zedong Thought Research Office reached a consensus: it is imperative to complete the writing task for the History of the Development of Mao Zedong Thought volume of the History of the Development of Marxism with high quality and quantity, in accordance with the planned schedule of the Institute of Marxism Studies. In the second half of the year, the office will continue the "Reread the Selected Works of Mao" [7] reading group activities, conduct in-depth subject research, and take the initiative to increase the intensity of academic theoretical research. The goal is to produce more research results and further promote disciplinary construction by continuously solidifying the foundation of academic research.

At the same time, the meeting made further arrangements for the preparatory work of the 9th CASS Mao Zedong Thought Forum, scheduled for early September, as well as for disciplinary field research.

While listening to the presentations, Researcher He Xinyuan commented on the work of the Mao Zedong Thought Research Office and the research status of each individual, offering excellent guiding suggestions. In the final concluding speech, He Xinyuan provided further guidance on the preparations for the 9th CASS Mao Zedong Thought Forum in the second half of the year, the continued development of the "Reread the Selected Works of Mao" reading group, and the preparatory work for the General Academic History of the Sinicization of Marxism. He expressed hope that the Mao Zedong Thought Research Office would strive to set an example in publishing papers in core journals and completing key tasks, aiming to welcome the successful opening of the 20th National Congress of the CPC [8] with more and more solid academic achievements.
