The Party Branch of the Journal and Network Center Holds a Seminar on Studying "Xi Jinping: The Governance of China" (Volume IV)
On the afternoon of July 21, 2022, the Party Branch of the Periodicals and Website Center of the Institute of Marxism Studies (IMS) at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) held an exchange meeting to study the fourth volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China. Xin Xiangyang, a Research Fellow and Secretary of the IMS Party Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a keynote speech. Zhang Jiangang, a Research Fellow and Secretary of the Party Branch, presided over the session. More than ten scholars, including Research Fellows Li Jianguo and Wang Zhongbao, delivered successive exchange speeches. The discussion was lively and the atmosphere harmonious, yielding significant results from this study and exchange session.

Research Fellow Xin Xiangyang pointed out that studying the fourth volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China is of great importance. First, one must study the four volumes in connection with one another. Second, one must study them in connection with the background of the times. He noted that the fourth volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China possesses several characteristic features: first, it is a profound manifestation of the new leap in the Sinicization of Marxism [1]. Second, it contains many important theoretical judgments. Third, it emphasizes the power of the spirit. Fourth, it exhibits a significant amount of systemic thinking. Furthermore, the fourth volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China contains many theoretical innovations.

Research Fellow Li Jianguo noted that the fourth volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China reflects the characteristics of theoretical innovation during the period where the "Two Centenary Goals" [2] converge. Its twenty-one special topics are an excellent embodiment of the "Ten Clarifications" and "Fourteen Perseverances" [3]. The fourth volume effectively reflects the fundamental viewpoints and main framework of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; it is both a book for theoretical study and a reference tool for our work.
Research Fellow Wang Zhongbao pointed out that Chinese-path modernization is a comprehensive modernization and is, in essence, socialist modernization. Regarding the general nature of modernization, it is a historical process and state of achieving advanced development concepts supported by science, advanced technological equipment, developed material and spiritual elements, and high-level physical and psychological literacy. Marxism is a scientific theory; our adherence to Marxism as guidance in the realm of ideology reflects the advanced nature of the guiding ideology of Chinese-path modernization. Under the guidance of the scientific theory of Marxism, Chinese-path modernization will certainly be able to realize the socialist modernization of the "free and well-rounded development of individuals" proposed by Marx.
Research Fellow Zhang Jiangang noted that the fourth volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China is more systematic and theoretical, with a more complete framework, richer connotations, and more standardized new formulations. Theoretically speaking, the fourth volume represents a very large leap. Zhang Jian, Huang Huade, Liu Shuhui, Zhang Xiaomin, Shan Chao, Fan Xin, Wang Yi, Wang Zhen, Gao Jingyu, and Liu Sitong each delivered exchange speeches.
In his concluding remarks, Research Fellow Zhang Jiangang emphasized: everyone's speeches were excellent, demonstrating both "problem consciousness" [4] and theoretical reflection. Studying the fourth volume of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China is a key theoretical study priority leading up to the 20th National Congress. We must follow up and study in a timely manner, study comprehensively and systematically, study with deep reflection, study in connection with reality, and study in integration with our work.
