Symposium on the Major Television Feature Film "Navigating" Held in Beijing
Guangming Daily, Beijing, October 25 (Reporter Zhang Yingtian) — A symposium for the large-scale television documentary series Navigation (Linghang) [1] was held in Beijing on the 25th. Experts and scholars from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Qiushi journal agency, the National Defense University, and the Science and Technology Development Center of the Ministry of Education, among other institutions, engaged in in-depth exchanges regarding the documentary’s ideological depth, theoretical rigor, academic value, artistic quality, and innovative character.
Navigation focuses on the landmark great transformations of the decade of the New Era. Across 16 episodes, it presents the extraordinary and magnificent journey undertaken by the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, uniting and leading the whole Party and the people of all ethnic groups throughout the country, highlighting the powerful truth-force of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Since its broadcast on the CCTV General Channel on October 8, the series has garnered high attention from all sectors of society and received widespread acclaim.
The participating experts and scholars unanimously stated that the series possesses distinct characteristics: it is ideologically profound, academically robust, and narrative-driven. It fully demonstrates General Secretary Xi Jinping’s extraordinary strategic vision in governance and his fundamental stance of being people-centered. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC [2], the reason the causes of the Party and the state have achieved historical accomplishments and undergone historical transformations lies fundamentally in General Secretary Xi Jinping serving as the core of the Party Central Committee and the core of the whole Party to "take the helm and navigate" [3], and in the scientific guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. With profound theoretical explanatory power and theoretical insight, and by leveraging the power of thought, culture, and literature and art, the series has enabled the Party's innovative theories to "fly into the homes of ordinary people" [4]. Experts and scholars believe that Navigation allows the audience to deeply feel that China's development is a development "with heart," "with roots," and "with a future." The spirit of the Chinese Communists in the New Era—working tirelessly to realize the people's aspirations for a better life—is highly impactful. Numerous detailed stories express the people's sense of fulfillment, happiness, and security amidst the development of the New Era.
During the symposium, some experts evaluated Navigation highly from the perspectives of film aesthetics and iconography. They considered the series’ tone to be grand and majestic, truly achieving the visualization of ideological discourse and the typification of characters and objects. It is regarded as a masterpiece that manifests historical culture and the evolution of the era.
The large-scale television documentary Navigation was jointly produced by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee [5] in collaboration with the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee, the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Radio and Television Administration, China Media Group, and the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission.
