Theoretical Seminar on "Studying, Publicizing, and Implementing the Spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC" and the 70th Anniversary Development Conference of the School of Marxism Successfully Held

On December 17, a theoretical seminar titled "Studying, Publicizing, and Implementing the Spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress" and the 70th Anniversary Development Conference of the School of Marxism were held at Nanjing Forestry University (NFU). The event was co-hosted by the Institute of Marxism Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the NFU Base of the Jiangsu Provincial Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. During the meeting, the NFU Base of the Jiangsu Provincial Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era was officially inaugurated. The conference was co-organized by the Department of Sinicization of Marxism of the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, the School of Marxism of the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the Publicity Department of the CPC NFU Committee and the NFU School of Marxism. Co-sponsors included the editorial departments of Marxism Studies, the Journal of Nanjing University (Philosophy, Humanities and Social Sciences), Jiangsu Social Sciences, and the Journal of Nanjing Forestry University (Humanities and Social Sciences Edition). Heads of relevant functional departments and the School of Marxism at NFU, along with faculty and student representatives, attended the meeting at the offline venue.

Attendees included Zhao Maocheng, Secretary of the CPC Committee of NFU; Professor Xin Xiangyang, Secretary of the CPC Committee and Vice President of the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies; Zhao Jinsong, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the Jiangsu Provincial CPC Committee; Professor Liu Zhiming, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee for Directly Affiliated Institutions of CASS and Director of the Department of Sinicization of Marxism at the Institute of Marxism Studies; Liu Bihao, Chief of the Theory Division of the Publicity Department of the Jiangsu Provincial CPC Committee; Zhao Yurong, Chief of the Social Sciences and Political Education Division of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education; and Wang Guopin, former Secretary of the CPC Committee of Nanjing Xiaozhuang University. Experts and scholars from more than 50 universities, Party schools, and academies of social sciences across the country attended the meeting. The opening ceremony was presided over by Zhang Xiaoqin, Vice President of NFU.

Speech by Zhao Maocheng, Secretary of the CPC Committee of Nanjing Forestry University

Zhao Maocheng extended a warm welcome to the leaders and experts and expressed heartfelt thanks to friends from all walks of life who have long cared for and supported the development of NFU. He pointed out that "Red" has always been the most distinctive foundational color of NFU’s educational philosophy. As the cradle of ideological and political education and Marxist research at NFU, the School of Marxism and its predecessors have always held high the banner of Marxist truth, remaining true to the original aspiration and founding mission of "educating people for the Party and cultivating talent for the country," spreading the sparks [1] of theory and working tirelessly in the fields of education. He stated that NFU would take the establishment of the base as an opportunity to, under the strong support and guidance of the Publicity Department of the Jiangsu Provincial CPC Committee, rely on the national "Double First-Class" [2] initiative and the construction of high-level universities in Jiangsu. He emphasized leveraging professional advantages to ensure the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress takes root at NFU, persistently using Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to forge the soul and educate people [3]. The university aims to further build and strengthen the School of Marxism and the discipline of Marxist theory, striving to transform the base into an influential highland for the research, dissemination, and cultivation of talent for the Party’s innovative theories in the New Era.

Speech by Professor Xin Xiangyang, Secretary of the CPC Committee and Vice President of the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies

In his speech, Xin Xiangyang pointed out that the 20th CPC National Congress possesses distinct political, strategic, and global significance. Thoroughly studying, publicizing, and implementing the spirit of the 20th Congress, and deeply researching and interpreting its theoretical innovations, is a vital political task for the broad community of philosophy and social science workers. He proposed "three consciousnesses": First, an awareness of innovation. One must maintain a consciousness of self-renewal, bridge and enhance original capacities, and continuously improve innovation mechanisms. Taking the Sinicization and modernization of Marxism as the dynamic starting point, researchers must consolidate the foundation for innovation, enhance innovative resolve, and stimulate innovative momentum. Second, a problematic consciousness [4]. Researchers should consciously take answering the questions of China, the world, the people, and the times as their academic responsibility, continuously enhancing the explanatory power, reach, and resonance of ideological theories. In researching and solving major issues concerning the overall, fundamental, and key interests of the Party and the state, they should form unique, pioneering, and leading achievements. Third, an awareness of serving the people. It is essential to adhere to a people-centered research orientation, establish the ideal of "doing scholarship for the people," respect the principal status of the people, focus on the practical creations of the people, and consciously link personal academic pursuits with the development of the country and the nation, striving for research results that can withstand the test of practice, the people, and history.

Speech by Zhao Jinsong, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the Jiangsu Provincial CPC Committee

On behalf of the Publicity Department of the Jiangsu Provincial CPC Committee and the Provincial Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Zhao Jinsong expressed warm congratulations on the establishment of the base. He noted that the 20th CPC National Congress was a landmark meeting held at a key moment when the whole Party and the people of all ethnic groups are embarking on a new journey to build a modern socialist country in all respects and marching toward the Second Centenary Goal [5]. He stated that the Research Center, as an important front for the Party’s ideological and theoretical construction, must focus closely on the new viewpoints, assertions, deployments, and requirements proposed at the 20th Congress, deepening and expanding theoretical research and interpretation to produce more high-level results. He expressed hope that NFU would further play a leading role in the discipline, integrate university-wide strength, and aggregate resources from various parties to achieve continuous breakthroughs in theoretical research, dissemination, academic exchange, policy consultation, and talent cultivation.

Inauguration of the NFU Base of the Jiangsu Provincial Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era

To fully integrate resources and strengths in social science theory across the province and deeply interpret Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the Jiangsu Provincial Research Center established its first batch of theoretical research bases, publicity and popularization bases, and practical investigation bases this year. NFU was successfully approved as one of the first theoretical research bases. At the meeting, Zhao Jinsong and Zhao Maocheng jointly unveiled the plaque for the base.

Development Conference for the 70th Anniversary of the School of Marxism at Nanjing Forestry University

Following the opening ceremony, the 70th Anniversary Development Conference of the School of Marxism was held. Under the theme "Staying True to the Original Aspiration Through Seven Decades of Diligent Practice, Assuming the Mission of Nurturing the Roots and Forging the Soul," the conference reviewed the school's journey. Originating from the Marxist-Leninist Teaching and Research Section of the Nanjing College of Forestry established in 1952, the school has developed over 70 years into a teaching and research entity integrating Marxist theoretical education, research, dissemination, and talent cultivation. Attendees viewed a promotional film titled Seven Decades of Passing the Torch and Spreading the Sparks, and Dean Sun Jianhua reported on the school’s development.

Theoretical Seminar on "Studying, Publicizing, and Implementing the Spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress"

During the subsequent seminar, 51 experts and scholars in the field of Marxist theory gathered "in the cloud" to share innovative insights on the new viewpoints and ideas in the report of the 20th CPC National Congress. They offered suggestions for interpreting the spirit of the Congress, promoting the high-quality development of ideological and political courses in the New Era, and building the discipline of Marxist theory.

Seminar Phase I

Professor Jin Nuo, former Secretary of the CPC Committee of Renmin University of China, delivered a report titled "Promoting Theoretical Innovation Based on Practice and Continuously Writing New Chapters in the Sinicization and Modernization of Marxism." She pointed out that the vitality of theory lies in innovation. It is necessary to comprehensively grasp the internal laws and historical necessity of the Sinicization and modernization of Marxism from theoretical, historical, and practical logic. She emphasized that "two combinations" [6] are key to this process, and a problem-oriented approach is a vital source of momentum.

Professor Xin Xiangyang delivered a report titled "Applying the Crystallization of the Marxist Worldview and Methodology." He argued that the century-long process of the Sinicization of Marxism has resulted in three historic leaps, producing Mao Zedong Thought, the Theory System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. These systems have enriched the Marxist methodological system with a deep foundation in fine traditional Chinese culture. He stated that dialectical and historical materialism remain indispensable for navigating complex contradictions and accumulating experience.

Professor Huang Rongsheng, former Secretary of the CPC Committee of Southwest University, reported on "Three Keywords for the High-Quality Development of the Ideological and Political Education Discipline on the New Journey." These keywords are: "remembering the original aspiration and founding mission" (concerning direction), "improving disciplinary standards" (concerning the core), and "adhering to dialectical methods" (concerning the "bridge and boat" [7] problem of methodology).

Professor Wang Binglin, former Director of the Social Sciences Development Research Center of the Ministry of Education, reported on "Deeply Grasping the Essence of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era." He argued that the "Six Persistences" [8] summarized in the 20th Congress report—as the worldview and methodology of this Thought—constitute an interconnected, organic whole and are the fundamental requirements for opening new realms of Marxism.

Professor Han Xiping, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of Jilin University, delivered a report titled "The Great Significance of Firmly Grasping the Initiative for Development and Progress in Our Own Hands." He argued that the 20th CPC National Congress proposed...

“Adhering to placing the development of the country and the nation on the basis of our own strength, and adhering to holding the fate of China’s development and progress firmly in our own hands” possesses major significance in five aspects: first, it is a basic manifestation of the Communist Party of China’s principles for governing the Party; second, it represents the basic experience of the CPC’s century of struggle; third, it is a proactive choice for grasping the “two overall situations” [9]; fourth, it is an important guarantee for fulfilling the historical mission of the new journey; and fifth, it is a basic support for advancing a community with a shared future for humanity.

Researcher Liu Zhiming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Directly Underlined Institutions of CASS and Director of the Department of Marxism in China Studies at the Institute of Marxism Studies, delivered a report.

Researcher Liu Zhiming delivered a report titled "Continuing to Advance Theoretical Innovation Based on Practice." He emphasized that the world is changing, the times are advancing, and the development of practice never ends; likewise, our journey of seeking truth, continuously carrying out theoretical and practical innovation, and constantly opening up new horizons for our cause also never ends. Contemporary China is undergoing the most grand and unique practical innovation in human history. The weight of the tasks of reform, development, and stability, the abundance of contradictions, risks, and challenges, and the magnitude of the tests of governance are all unprecedented. The profound shifts in the world’s changes unseen in a century [10] are unprecedented, posing a large number of theoretical and practical subjects that urgently need answering. The task of advancing the Sinicization and modernization of Marxism has not become lighter, but heavier. Contemporary Chinese Communists must have the courage and skill to shoulder the solemn historical responsibility of continuously writing new chapters in the Sinicization and modernization of Marxism.

Professor Ai Silin, Dean of the Institute for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era at Tsinghua University, delivered a report.

Professor Ai Silin delivered a report titled "Deeply Understanding the Chinese Characteristics of Chinese-path Modernization." He argued that the systematic exposition of Chinese-path modernization is an important theoretical contribution of the report to the 20th CPC National Congress, resulting in a well-developed and content-rich theory of Chinese-path modernization. From the dimension of the relationship between modernity and tradition, it is precisely because Chinese-path modernization is deeply rooted in fine traditional Chinese culture and continuously draws nourishment from it that it has carved out a path of Chinese-path modernization. From the perspective of the relationship between commonality and individuality, Chinese-path modernization has produced high-level, high-quality developmental results in terms of the common characteristics of modernization. From the dimension of theory and practice, Chinese-path modernization must continuously explore and innovate in practice so that the "five major characteristics" [11] can better advance the development of Chinese-path modernization.

Professor Wang Shuyin of the School of Marxism at Beijing Normal University delivered a report.

Professor Wang Shuyin delivered a report titled "The 'New Leap' in the Sinicization and Modernization of Marxism." Based on important Party documents from the more than forty years of reform and opening up, he traced the historical context of the positioning and expression of the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics within the Sinicization and modernization of Marxism. He argued that due to changes in the principal contradiction in society and the major themes of the era closely related to it, the historical process of socialism with Chinese characteristics is correspondingly divided into the new period and the New Era. The creation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era embodies the continuity, stages, inheritance, and innovation of the Sinicization and modernization of Marxism.

Professor Sun Xiguo, Executive Dean of the Institute for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era at Peking University, delivered a report.

Professor Sun Xiguo delivered a report titled "Five Major Relationships to be Handled Well in Combining the Basic Tenets of Marxism with Fine Traditional Chinese Culture." He argued that this combination requires handling five major relationships: the relationship between the one and the many, the ancient and the modern, China and the West, the internal and the external, and theory and practice (li and shi). These five relationships respectively address the issues of the guiding status of Marxism, the modernization of Marxism, the Sinicization of Marxism, the popular identification with Marxism, and the innovative development of Marxism.

Professor Song Jin of the School of Marxism at East China Normal University delivered a report.

Professor Song Jin delivered a report titled "Answering and Guiding the Resolution of Problems is the Fundamental Task of Theory." He pointed out that the 20th CPC National Congress for the first time put forward the worldview and methodology of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and for the first time elevated "adhering to a problem-oriented approach" to the level of worldview and methodology. From the perspective of worldview, adhering to a problem-oriented approach embodies the materialist stance. From the perspective of methodology, adhering to a problem-oriented approach expresses the attitude of seeking truth from facts. The subject of "problem consciousness" is the thinker, while the subject of the "problem-oriented approach" is the thought itself. Problem consciousness and the problem-oriented approach are important paths and horizons for understanding and grasping the logical architecture of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Adhering to a problem-oriented approach reflects the unification of three aspects: the unification of a problem-oriented and goal-oriented approach, the unification of a problem-oriented and work-oriented approach, and the unification of a problem-oriented approach with a broad perspective.

The second stage of the seminar was presided over by Professor Li Nan, Executive Dean of the School of Marxism at the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Researcher He Xinyuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Marxism in China Studies at the Institute of Marxism Studies, CASS, delivered a report.

Researcher He Xinyuan delivered a report titled "A Holistic Understanding of 'Advancing the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation through Chinese-path Modernization'." He proposed that this is the first time the Party Central Committee has integrated national rejuvenation and modernization into a holistic concept, completing the integration of the Party and state's struggle goals and the path to realization in terms of the combination of theory and practice. "Advancing the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation through Chinese-path Modernization" is an important historical conclusion and a major political judgment accurately grasped and reached by the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, based on adhering to a "big picture view of history," seriously looking back at and reflecting on the "road we have traveled," repeatedly comparing it with "the roads others have taken," and looking far ahead to plan the "road moving forward," after making it perfectly clear "where we came from and where we are going."

Researcher Qin Guowei, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism at the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a report.

Researcher Qin Guowei delivered a report titled "The Justice, Scientificity, and Originality of the Path of Chinese-path Modernization." He argued that the justice of the path of Chinese-path modernization is inherited from Marxism, nurtured in fine traditional Chinese culture, grown in the century-long history of the Party, and embodied in the path of modernization itself. The scientificity of the path of Chinese-path modernization comes from the root of Marxism, the foundation of socialist practice, the effectiveness of planning and execution, and the strength of the masses. The originality of the path of Chinese-path modernization lies in exploring a new path for a country with an ultra-large population to enter modernization, in exploring a new model for late-developing countries to move toward modernization independently, and in exploring a new paradigm for inclusive and endogenous development.

Professor Wang Yonggui of the School of Marxism at Nanjing Normal University delivered a report.

Professor Wang Yonggui delivered a report titled "Deeply Appreciating the Standpoint, Viewpoint, and Method of Adhering to Putting the People Above All Else." Wang Yonggui elaborated on three points: First, one must grasp the worldview and methodology of the "Six Musts" [12] as a whole. Second, each aspect of the "Six Musts" has its own positioning, encompassing issues of stance, character, attitude, work methods, thinking methods, and global vision. Third, adhering to putting the people above all else holds a commanding position among the "Six Musts." It is simultaneously a stance, a viewpoint, and a method.

Professor Hu Daping, Dean of the School of Marxism at Nanjing University, delivered a report.

Professor Hu Daping delivered a report titled "Strengthening Cultural Confidence and Telling the China Story Well." He argued that the China story is, first, the story of Chinese civilization within the history of the development of world civilizations. With 5,000 years of history and a culture centered on Confucianism, China became the world’s greatest ancient civilization and has shaped the world’s greatest modern country today. Second, the China story is the story of a century of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Over the past hundred years, under the leadership of the CPC and by virtue of the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics guided by Marxism, China has shaped the most dynamic modern state and will continue to make even greater contributions to the world. Finally, the China story is the story of creating a new form of human civilization in the contemporary era.

Professor Wang Yan of the School of Marxism at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics delivered a report.

Professor Wang Yan delivered a report titled "The Practical Value Demands of Whole-Process People's Democracy." He proposed that whole-process people’s democracy takes responding to the real needs of the people as its realistic starting point, mobilizing the broad participation of the people as its driving force for development, promoting rational consultation among the people as its important handle, and safeguarding the various rights of the people as its necessary support. It follows the practical value demands of putting the people above all else, seeking effectiveness through realism, valuing harmony through inclusiveness, following the rule of law, constraining power, and ensuring equal rights. This forms a democratic operating system that is interconnected, comprehensively covering, organically interactive, and closely linked, opening up a democratic path that truly belongs to the Chinese people themselves.

Professor Wang Jianhua, Party Secretary of the School of Marxism at Nanjing University, delivered a report.

Professor Wang Jianhua delivered a report titled "Historical Experience of the Path of Chinese-path Modernization from the Perspective of Political Leadership." He proposed that, looking at the developmental course of the path of Chinese-path modernization since the founding of New China, the CPC has advanced modernization with an open governing philosophy, undertaking the responsibilities of a major power while fully integrating into the world economic system. Meanwhile, the Party’s long-term governing status determines its ability to seize the initiative in the cause of modernization through "goal relaying" and to make strategic deployments for modernization through Party Congresses, thereby ensuring the rapid and healthy development of various national undertakings. The system of multiparty cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC determines that the Party and the construction of modernization are integrated; strengthening and improving Party leadership through self-revolution is akin to "taking the pulse" of modernization construction to facilitate precise policy implementation. From governing philosophy and goal setting to strategic deployment and self-revolution, the construction of Chinese-path modernization has achieved a series of great successes, demonstrating the CPC’s powerful political leadership.

Professor Zhang Liang, Vice Dean of the Graduate School and Department of Philosophy at Nanjing University, delivered a report.

Professor Zhang Liang delivered a report titled "Chinese-path Modernization in the Horizon of Marxist Social Development Theory." Proceeding from Marxist social development theory, he elaborated four views on Chinese-path modernization: First, modernization is an objective and universal process of social development. Second, a realistic path of modernization is a unity of universality and particularity. Third, the path of modernization in the era of globalization possesses a larger space for subjective choice. Fourth, the practical and theoretical innovation of Chinese-path modernization is a continuous process.

Professor Lin Jinping, Dean of the School of Marxism at Sun Yat-sen University, delivered a report.

Professor Lin Jinping delivered a report titled "Common Prosperity in the Path of Chinese-path Modernization." He argued that within the framework of Western modernization, especially classical liberalism, it is difficult to achieve common prosperity. The Western path of modernization can achieve aggregate wealth but inevitably leads to the polarization of rich and poor. The path of Chinese-path modernization ensures the realization of common prosperity through industrialization and the socialist market economy, through socialist public ownership, and through the leadership of the CPC.

Professor Wang Gang, Dean of the School of Marxism at Nanjing Normal University, delivered a report.

Professor Wang Gang delivered a report titled "The Value Significance of the Great Founding Spirit of the Party for a Long-term Governing Marxist Party." He argued that the great founding spirit of the Party is embodied in the intellectual, practical, spiritual, and value-oriented characteristics of Chinese Communists, which hold important value for a long-term governing Marxist party. First, such a party must be firm in thought and faith. Second, it must have its own original aspiration and mission. Third, it must be firm in will and invincible. Fourth, it must be loyal to the Party and keep the people in its heart.

Professor Cao Shunxian of the School of Marxism at Nanjing Forestry University delivered a report.

Professor [Name redacted in source] delivered a report titled "Advancing the Sinicization and Modernization of Marxist Ecological Civilization Theory through the Construction of Ecological Civilization as a Discipline." She argued, first, that continuously advancing the Sinicization and Modernization of Marxist ecological civilization theory through disciplinary construction is an inevitable choice for writing a new chapter in the Sinicization and Modernization of Marxism. It serves to implement the guiding ideology of Chinese Marxist ecological civilization, execute the strategy of invigorating the country through science and education, and strengthen the talent support for modernization. Second, this disciplinary construction is a strategic measure to implement the New Development Philosophy, fulfill the primary task of high-quality development, and serve the realization of "Dual Carbon" goals [13]. Third, this advancement is grounded in ecological civilization education; centered on cultivating talent for Chinese-path modernization characterized by the harmony between humanity and nature; composed of the construction of scientific and systematic teaching, research, platform, and social service systems; and fundamentally guaranteed by the leadership of the Party. Its aim is to provide the necessary intellectual and talent support for Chinese-path modernization in the pursuit of national rejuvenation.

The third stage of the symposium was presided over by Professor Wang Haobin, Executive Editor of the Journal of Nanjing University (Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition).

Professor Zhang Zhanbin, Dean of the School of Marxism at the Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC (National Academy of Governance), delivered a report titled "Implementing the 'Two Doublings' to Promote High-Quality Development." He argued that by 2035, when socialist modernization is basically realized, we must strive to double the per capita Gross National Product (GNP) and the size of the middle-income group to lay a solid foundation for becoming a great modern socialist country. Implementing the "Two Doublings" is a powerful tool for solidly promoting common prosperity for all and an important guarantee for leaping over the "middle-income trap" to steadily rank among high-income countries. In the midst of full and balanced development, we must meet the people’s ever-growing needs for a better life. We must firmly uphold the banner of "taking economic construction as the center," effectively promote high-quality economic development, implement the New Development Philosophy, and actively construct a New Development Paradigm [14].

Professor Zhang Shihai, Dean of the School of Marxism at Shandong University, delivered a report titled "The Communist Party of China is a Glorious Model of Theoretical Innovation." In connection with the second section of the report to the 20th National Congress, "Opening a New Frontier in the Sinicization and Modernization of Marxism," he discussed why the CPC is capable and why socialism with Chinese characteristics is good. Ultimately, it is because Marxism works, and specifically, it is because the Sinicized and modernized Marxism works. Marxism is scientific and objective truth; it requires a proletarian party to possess the capacity for theoretical innovation to realize its historical mission and drive social-historical development. The century-long history of the CPC's struggle is precisely the history of combining scientific theory with Chinese reality, leading to the conclusion that only Marxism can save China, only Marxism can develop China, and only Marxism can realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Professor Wang Yue from the School of Marxism at Nanjing Normal University delivered a report titled "Chinese-path Modernization and the New Form of Human Civilization." He pointed out that the report to the 20th National Congress, for the first time, integrated Chinese-path modernization, the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and the new form of human civilization. This represents a theoretical innovation in the Sinicization and Modernization of Marxism and holds great theoretical significance. The essential requirement of Chinese-path modernization culminates in the new form of human civilization; this is not a discussion of modernization in a general sense, but a scientific generalization and a brand-new understanding of the connotations of Chinese-path modernization. The "new form of human civilization" emphasizes understanding modernization through the dual lenses of civilizational development and the progress of social formations.

Professor Li Junkui from the School of Marxism at Nanjing University of Science and Technology delivered a report titled "The Revolutionary Significance of the 20th National Congress." He argued that the existential problems facing humanity are prominent, and neither capitalism nor traditional socialism can solve them. A Sinicized and modernized Marxism is required to propose solutions. These problems can be categorized as follows: first, issues of labor and income; second, the pursuit of a happy life; third, the contradiction between the finiteness of resources/environment and the infinite expansion of capitalist production; fourth, the burgeoning new technological revolution. These are fundamental, major issues. To resolve them thoroughly requires a radical change in the mode of production, lifestyle, and worldview—this is the new task and challenge that the Sinicization and Modernization of Marxism must face.

Professor Liu Huanming, Dean of the School of Marxism at Jiangnan University, delivered a report titled "On the Roots and Tension of the New Path of Chinese-path Modernization." He pointed out that the new path of Chinese-path modernization provides Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions for the better progress of human society. This includes the characteristics of the new path; its rooting in the unity of universal laws and specific national conditions; its correct handling of the relationship between Party leadership and the supremacy of the people; and its correct handling of the unity between strategic arrangements and phased planning. The new path of Chinese-path modernization possesses immense resilience and the ability to withstand pressure, demonstrating the international image of a responsible major power.

Professor Tian Zhijian, Dean of the School of Marxism at Soochow University, delivered a report titled "Consolidating the Mass Foundation for the Sinicization and Modernization of Marxism." He elaborated from three aspects: first, focusing on the youth, using Marxism and its Sinicized/modernized forms to foster virtue and nurture the soul [15], and guiding young people to master and apply the worldview, methodology, and the positions, views, and methods of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. This is the strategic priority for consolidating the mass foundation. Second, providing theoretical services to the general public and promoting the socialization of the popularization of the Party’s innovative theories; this is the strategic basis. Third, focusing on the ranks of Party members, especially leading officials, to arm the "key minority" [16] with Marxism to guide practice and promote work; this is the strategic key.

Professor Wang Zhi, Dean of the School of Marxism at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, delivered a report titled "The Profound Historical Significance of the 'Three Major Events' Since the 18th National Congress." He pointed out that the three major events of the New Era's first decade [17] are historic victories that will be recorded in the annals of the Chinese nation’s development and have a profound impact on the world. The centenary of the founding of the CPC, with the Party remaining in its prime, fully illustrates the historical significance of the world’s largest governing party leading the world’s most populous country and promoting the world’s largest-scale modernization. Socialism with Chinese characteristics entering a New Era reflects a change in our own positioning and, more importantly, declares that scientific socialism is bursting with vitality, embodying world-historical significance. Completing the historical task of poverty alleviation and the comprehensive buildup of a moderately prosperous society (Xiaokang), thereby achieving the first Centenary Goal, has historically resolved the problem of absolute poverty that existed for thousands of years, embodying a historical significance spanning millennia.

Professor Dai Rui, Dean of the School of Marxism at Hohai University, delivered a report titled "The Conceptual Basis of the Creative Practice of the New Form of Human Civilization." He noted that while socialism with Chinese characteristics has created a new form of human civilization, "creation" is a present perfect progressive process. He further provided a systematic exposition of the scientific connotations, practical paths, and foundational conditions of this creation through three dimensions: a multi-dimensional view of progress, a practical systems view, and a foundational engineering view of new civilizational creation.

Professor Hu Lifa, Dean of the School of Marxism at Yangzhou University, delivered a report titled "Characteristics of Chinese-path Economic Modernization." He argued that economic modernization is the prerequisite for realizing Chinese-path modernization. It is the modernization of the Party’s leadership over economic work; a modernization that moves from catching up to overtaking; a modernization of balanced development across time and space; a modernization of harmony between humanity and nature; a modernization of mutual benefit and win-win results; and a modernization of common prosperity for all.

Professor Li Li, Dean of the School of Marxism at Jiangsu University, delivered a report titled "The Scientific Connotations and Systematic Construction of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s Important Expositions on Technological Innovation." She pointed out that the 20th National Congress established the strategic task of invigorating the country through science and education and strengthening the talent support for modernization, emphasizing that education, technology, and talent are the foundational and strategic supports for building a modern socialist country in all respects. General Secretary Xi Jinping attaches great importance to technological innovation, inheriting and developing the technological ideas of Marx, Engels, and successive generations of central Party leadership. He has made a series of important expositions on technological innovation, scientifically answering a series of major questions concerning the development of China’s sci-tech undertakings. This has pointed the direction for achieving leapfrog development at a new historical starting point, effectively leveraging the leading role of technological innovation in overall innovation, building a world power in science and technology, and achieving high-level technological self-reliance and self-strengthening.

Professor Wang Jinyu from the School of Marxism at Nanjing Forestry University delivered a report titled "Several Prerequisite Theoretical Issues to Grasp in Maintaining Ideological Security." She pointed out that maintaining ideological security is a vital component of maintaining national security. The eleventh section of the 20th National Congress report emphasizes its critical importance from the perspective of enhancing the capacity to maintain national security. For Marxist theorists and teachers of ideological and political courses, enhancing this capacity first requires strengthening "internal skills"—the ability to distinguish right from wrong and resist various erroneous trends of thought. In line with the spirit of the 20th National Congress, the following points should be grasped: First, deeply explain the new characteristics and functions of ideology in the digital age from an academic perspective. Second, profoundly understand the internal logical relationship between the "Two Works" [18]. Third, while emphasizing the fundamental guiding position of Marxist ideology, deeply explain the internal mechanisms and paths of the "Two Combinations," and resolutely oppose "foreign stereotyped writing" [19] while simultaneously opposing all forms of cultural restorationism.

Assistant Researcher Yang Binbin from the Department of Marxist Sinicization Research at the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies delivered a report titled "The Internal Logic of the Formation of the Concept of the 'New Form of Human Civilization'." He argued that the "new form of human civilization" is a concept that looks back at history, responds to reality, and, more importantly, faces the future. Proposing this concept demonstrates a consciousness and confidence in innovation; it signifies not only innovation in concepts and propositions but also innovation in discourse and theory, reflecting the conscious construction of a Chinese discourse. From a historical logic, it is a new concept proposed based on diachronic investigation and synchronic comparison. From a theoretical logic, it is based on the scientific, people-centered, and developmental character of the theory. From a practical logic, it is based on innovative consciousness and inclusive claims. We must base ourselves on the diversity of development paths and advocate for civilizational exchange; base ourselves on the democratization of international relations and advocate for civilizational tolerance and coexistence; and base ourselves on a community with a shared future for humanity to advocate for mutual learning of civilizational achievements.

Researcher Sun Xiaoyuan, Director of the Institute of Marxism at the Jiangsu Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a report titled "The Modernization of Man: The Essential Significance and Value Pursuit of Chinese-path Modernization." He argued that...

"The essence of modernization is the modernization of people." Meeting the people's ever-growing needs for a better life and advancing people-centered modernization of the person epitomizes the important characteristics and essential requirements of Chinese-path modernization. The modernization of the person is both a process of continuously satisfying human needs (both material and spiritual) and a process by which individuals liberate themselves from the constraints of various natural and social forces to seek their own development. Advancing the modernization of the person can be seen as an indispensable stage in promoting the well-rounded development of individuals. Raising the level of civilization throughout society is closely related to advancing the modernization of the person. Promoting the formation of ideological concepts, mental outlooks, civilized trends, and codes of conduct that meet the requirements of the New Era is an internal requirement for raising the level of civilization across society, and an important component of advancing people-centered modernization of the person.

Professor Han Likun, Dean of the School of Marxism at Nanjing Forestry University, delivered a report titled "Deeply Advancing the 'Two Combinations' [20] to Continuously Open New Realms in the Sinicization and Modernization of Marxism." He argued that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s emphasis in the [20th Party Congress] report on "opening new realms in the Sinicization and Modernization of Marxism" fully demonstrates the firm defense of Marxism as a guiding ideology and a conscious awareness of the innovative development of Marxism by Chinese Communists in the process of national governance. It also fully reflects the profound reflection and scientific wisdom of Chinese Communists in the New Era regarding the dialectical relationship between theory and reality, and theory and practice. When using the basic principles of Marxism to guide socialist modernization, it is necessary to further grasp these specific realities comprehensively and deeply to provide an objective carrier for the Sinicization of Marxist theory. The combination of Marxism with China's fine traditional culture is the conceptual prerequisite, value guide, and theoretical foundation for the Sinicization of Marxism; it is also the fundamental requirement for further advancing the Sinicization and modernization of Marxism in the New Era.

The fourth stage of the symposium was presided over by Researcher Wu Ling, Executive Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal Jiangsu Social Sciences.

Professor Cao Dianshun, Dean of the School of Marxism at Jiangsu Normal University, delivered a report titled "The Triple Practical Logic of the Development Path of Chinese-path Modernization." He proposed that accurately understanding and scientifically implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s grand vision of "comprehensively advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese-path modernization" is not only an objective necessity for correctly grasping the spirit of the 20th Party Congress, but also a fundamental requirement of the practical logic of Chinese-path modernization. This involves scientifically planning Chinese-path modernization as a systemic construction project of the "Five-Sphere Integrated Plan," deeply constructing it as part of the "Great Project" [21] of strengthening Party leadership, and making efforts to advance it as the "Great Dream" of Chinese Communists. The successful practice of Chinese-path modernization signifies that it is a "Chinese solution" and "Chinese wisdom" capable of leading smoothly toward communism, representing the "Great Dream" of Chinese Communists’ firm belief in realizing the communist ideal.

Professor Fu Jianqiang, Dean of the School of Marxism at Nanjing Agricultural University, delivered a report titled "The People's Position and Fundamental Standpoints and Methods of Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law." He argued that Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law adheres to a fundamental people-centered position, primarily reflected in: insisting that the rule of law serves the people's interests; insisting that the rule of law relies on the people's strength; and ensuring that the people, as the subjects and source of power for the law-based governance of the country, fully exercise their principal role so they truly become the masters of the country. Xi Jinping Thought on the Rule of Law adheres to a developmental view of "good laws and good governance" [22], profoundly elucidating the relationship between the two, clarifying the direction of socialist rule of law development, and pushing China’s legal construction to a new realm from the "rule of law" to "good laws and good governance" at a deeper level. Furthermore, it adheres to the values of fairness and justice, reflected in upholding fairness and justice as the core values and basic principles of the rule of law and perfecting the system that guarantees them. Finally, it adheres to the systemic methodology of the rule of law, applying Marxist materialist dialectics vividly to the legal field, with particular emphasis on using scientific thinking methods such as strategic and systemic thinking to make coordinated progress in the comprehensive law-based governance of the country.

Researcher Ji Weibing, Party Committee Secretary of the School of Marxism at Nanjing University of Science and Technology, delivered a report titled "The Triple Dimensions of Achieving High-Level Scientific and Technological Self-Reliance and Strength." He noted that achieving high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and strength is a major goal and strategic deployment determined by the 20th Party Congress. From the dimension of necessity, this is a vital strategic support for building a scientific and technological powerhouse, and is key to seizing opportunities in the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation while responding to major risks and challenges. From the dimension of accessibility, the immense achievements in science and technology under the leadership of the Communist Party of China have provided a rich material accumulation, valuable historical experience, and powerful spiritual strength for achieving this goal. From the dimension of practice, we must persist in the Party’s comprehensive leadership over scientific and technological undertakings, promote the organic unity of "education as the foundation, technology as the force, and talent as the empowerment," and rigorously tackle the dual tasks of technological and governance innovation, thereby accelerating the formation of a new pattern of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and strength.

Professor Wang Runian, Dean of the School of Marxism at China Pharmaceutical University, delivered a report titled "The Endogenous Mechanism of the Communist Party of China’s Self-Revolution." He reviewed various historical and international understandings of the connotation of "revolution" and clarified the correct understanding of the CPC’s self-revolution. He expanded on three questions: First, how is the CPC's self-revolution possible? The Party's original aspiration and founding mission are the fundamental basis and source of power. Second, how does it occur? The combination of the universal truths of Marxism with China’s specific realities serves as the basic compliance for the Party's self-revolution. Third, when does it occur? The people-centered concept serves as the fundamental criterion for determining the Party's self-revolution.

Associate Professor Sun Tingting, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism at Shenzhen University, delivered a report titled "Shenzhen's Exploration of Chinese-path Modernization." She pointed out that from being a window of Reform and Opening-up to becoming various pilot zones and now a Pilot Demonstration Area of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, Shenzhen has developed from a frontier town into a vibrant international metropolis in over 40 years, providing important exploration for Chinese-path modernization. Shenzhen’s practice fully corroborates the Chinese path and experience of modernization through Reform and Opening-up.

Professor Zhang Tianyong, Dean of the School of Marxism at Nanjing Information Engineering University, delivered a report titled "Grasping the Essential Characteristics of Chinese-path Modernization: Party Leadership and Chinese-path Modernization." He argued that the leadership of the CPC is the essential characteristic of Chinese-path modernization, which should be understood through four aspects: First, the internal logic between political parties and modernization. Modern parties emerged during the transition to modernization and have since exerted a profound historical influence as the leaders and promoters of modernization. The birth of the CPC changed the direction of China's modernization. Second, CPC leadership is the most essential characteristic of Chinese-path modernization. Party leadership determines that Chinese-path modernization must have "people first" as its axis—it is a modernization of a socialist nature that is for the people, relies on the people, and is shared by the people. Third, the century-long journey of "standing up, becoming rich, and becoming strong" [23] is a century-long journey of the Party’s modernization leading social modernization. Fourth, advancing Chinese-path modernization requires vigorously advancing the Party's own modernization.

Professor Mei Jinghui, Dean of the School of Marxism at Nanjing Finance and Economics University, delivered a report titled "Giving Full Play to the Leading Function of Marxist Ideology over Social Trends of Thought." He proposed that in the face of diverse and interacting social trends of thought, we must give full play to the scientific and effective guidance of Marxist ideology. This requires taking the "Six Must-Persists" [24] as the fundamental standpoints and methods, continuously promoting the innovation of Marxist theory and discourse based on practical development, while also focusing on exploring the laws governing contemporary social trends to innovate the methods of guidance, thereby firmly grasping the leadership, initiative, and discourse power in guiding the development of social trends of thought.

Professor Wang Yezhou, Dean of the School of Marxism at Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, delivered a report titled "The Basic Connotations of Sinicized and Modernized Marxism." He expanded on these connotations from three dimensions: From the dimension of historical generation, he adhered to historical materialism and a "Big View of History" [25] to trace its evolutionary process and formation mechanism; from the dimension of internal logic, based on the Marxist theory of the basic contradictions in society and referring to the basic theories of the philosophy of development regardingsocial development mechanisms, he argued this major thesis contains dimensions of power logic, governance logic, and leading logic; from the dimension of content composition, he argued it includes a profound philosophical foundation, a logically rigorous content system, and profound and broad values.

Professor Qi Guang, Dean of the School of Marxism at China University of Mining and Technology, delivered a report titled "Unity and Consultation: The Innovative Practical Logic of Whole-Process People's Democracy." He argued that as a new model of democracy, the foundation and method for the practical innovation of whole-process people's democracy is consultation, while the direction and path are unity. The organic unity of consultation and unity constructs a transformative development model for the practical logic of whole-process people's democracy. Through this logic, the institutional advantages of whole-process people's democracy are further confirmed, and transformative democratic practices can truly consolidate and expand the path of socialist political development with Chinese characteristics. The continuous stimulation of new elements, content, and methods in democratic practice promotes the comprehensive enhancement of the value, practicality, and transformability of people's democracy.

Professor Liu Xiaohua, Dean of the School of Marxism at Changzhou University, delivered a report titled "Utilizing Red Resources, Deepening the Integration of Museums and Schools: Exploration and Practice of Constructing 'Great Ideological and Political Courses' in Universities." Taking "deepening museum-school integration and utilizing Red resources" as the main line, she explained how Red culture [26] integrates into ideological and political education from five perspectives: First, excavating Red resources to enrich the heritage of ideological and political education; second, expanding Red educational carriers to identify the "grip" [27] for innovating educational methods; third, "activating" Red resources to enhance the penetration of education through "great coordination"; fourth, conducting characteristic thematic education to add vitality; and fifth, deepening characteristic research to provide theoretical support.

Professor Hong Bo, Dean of the School of Marxism at Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, delivered a report titled "Deeply Understanding the 'Six Persists' and Accurately Grasping the Theoretical Essence." He argued that to understand the worldview and methodology of the "Six Persists," one must understand the "Two Combinations," especially the combination with China's fine traditional culture. The "Six Persists" possess characteristics of a Chinese discourse system distinct from Western philosophy, epitomizing the connection between the essence of Marxist thought and the cream of Chinese traditional culture, and their integration with the values that the masses "use daily without realizing it" [28].

Professor Liu Sumei, Dean of the School of Marxism at Jiangsu Second Normal University, delivered a report titled "Reflections on the Path of Chinese-path Modernization." She noted that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s thoughts on the "Two Combinations" are of great significance for grasping how to persist in the path of Chinese-path modernization. This path must be combined with specific practice, respect China’s national conditions, and follow a path that meets China's requirements to realize its goals. It must also be combined with China's fine traditional culture to find endogenous momentum, allowing it to proceed more steadily and effectively.

Qian Changfeng, Dean and Researcher of the School of Marxism at Yancheng Institute of Technology, delivered a report titled "The Value Dimension of a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity and the New Form of Human Civilization." He argued that the theory of the new form of human civilization proposed in the report of the 20th National Congress, along with its inherent "sentiment for all under heaven" [29] (tianxia qinghuai), value dimensions, and pursuit of specific values, mutually illuminate the theory of a community with a shared future for humanity. First, the foundation of civilization is the organic unity of "community theory" and "value theory," which differs from the concept of civilization in everyday life. Second, the new form of civilization created by the path of Chinese-path modernization transcends the "modernity community." Finally, the construction of a community with a shared future for humanity represents the fusion of Eastern and Western civilizations under the guidance of Marxism, constituting the ultimate pursuit in creating a new form of human civilization.

Professor Chen Xingfa, Dean of the School of Marxism at Nanjing Audit University, delivered a report titled "Environmental Justice and the Construction of Ecological Civilization." He posited that environmental justice represents both the fair treatment of the people in the development and sharing of environmental benefits, and the realization of common prosperity regarding environmental interests. In the New Era, constructing an ecological civilization so that environmental benefits benefit all people more equitably is a major issue that requires a serious solution. To promote the realization of environmental justice at present, one should comprehensively grasp its three dimensions and improve new mechanisms for the people-centered expression, coordination, decision-making, execution, and feedback of environmental justice.

Professor Zhan Wei, Dean of the School of Marxism at Huaiyin Normal University, delivered a report titled "Innovative Dimensions of the Construction of New Era Civilization Practice Centers." He proposed four dimensions for such innovation: first, promoting spatial construction innovation; second, promoting functional innovation; third, promoting institutional mechanism innovation; and fourth, promoting methodological innovation for these centers.

Professor Niu Qingyan, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism at Nanjing Forestry University, delivered a report titled "A Community with a Shared Future for Humanity from the Perspective of Universal Global Interaction." She argued that the two great visions of future society—the "association of free individuals" and "a community with a shared future for humanity"—were proposed amidst the high development of productive forces and the universal unfolding of global interaction, and will be realized through this same process. The community with a shared future for humanity advocated by China is an ecological, economic, civilizational, security, and responsibility-based community. It shatters the "clash of civilizations" and "end of history" [30] theses, providing a Chinese solution that theoretically leads toward Marx’s highest ideal of an "association of free individuals" and fulfills the promise of "seeking Great Unity for the people of the world" [31].

Researcher Liu Zhiming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Directly Affiliated Organs of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Director of the Department of Sinicization of Marxism at the Institute of Marxism Studies, and Professor Sun Jianhua, Dean of the School of Marxism at Nanjing Forestry University, provided the concluding remarks for the forum. Luo Peng, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Marxism at Nanjing Forestry University, presided over the closing ceremony.
