The Key to Comprehensively Advancing Chinese Modernization Lies in Upholding the Leadership of the Party
On July 29, 2023, the academic forum “Party Leadership and Chinese-path Modernization” and the book launch for the Series on the Historical Experience of the Party’s Centenary Struggle were held in Jinan. Yu Junxiao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Departments Directly Under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission and Vice President of the Institute of Marxism Studies; Zhao Shanhai, Second-level Inspector of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Jinan Municipal Committee; and Tian Junlin, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Jinan Publishing House, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Chinese-path modernization is socialist modernization led by the Communist Party of China. The leadership of the Party is directly related to the fundamental direction, future destiny, and ultimate success or failure of Chinese-path modernization. In her speech, Yu Junxiao stated that looking back at the course of over one hundred years during which the Party led the Chinese people, the Party shouldered the heavy responsibility of exploring the path of Chinese modernization. By uniting and leading the masses in unremitting struggle, the Party profoundly changed the direction and process of the Chinese nation's development since modern times [1], profoundly changed the future and destiny of the Chinese people and the Chinese nation, and profoundly changed the trends and landscape of world development. The report to the 20th CPC National Congress explicitly set forth the essential requirements of Chinese-path modernization, the primary one being "upholding the leadership of the Communist Party of China." It also clearly defined the major principles that must be firmly grasped in Chinese-path modernization, the first of which is "upholding and strengthening the overall leadership of the Party." We must strengthen the study of the Party's centenary historical experience, drawing wisdom and strength from its history of struggle over more than a hundred years to inject powerful spiritual momentum into the comprehensive advancement of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese-path modernization.

Zhao Shanhai stated in his speech that advancing Chinese-path modernization is a major deployment of the 20th National Congress. The report of the 20th National Congress explained that Chinese-path modernization is the modernization of a huge population, of common prosperity for all, of material and cultural-ethical advancement [2] in coordination, of harmony between humanity and nature, and of peaceful development. This forum, centered on the theme of "Party Leadership and Chinese-path Modernization," conducts academic exchanges and provides in-depth, systematic research and interpretation. This is an important measure for deeply studying and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress. It is also an academic event for enhancing exchange and building consensus, possessing great theoretical and practical significance for profoundly understanding the scientific conclusion that "Chinese-path modernization is socialist modernization led by the Communist Party of China." It will surely promote the continuous development and improvement of the theoretical system of Chinese-path modernization, providing solid theoretical support for the comprehensive advancement of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese-path modernization.

During the keynote report phase, experts and scholars from the CASS system, the Party School system, and various universities delivered brilliant academic reports closely focused on "Party Leadership and Chinese-path Modernization." During the academic forum phase, more than ten young doctoral students from domestic universities conducted academic exchanges on the theme of the conference. At the closing ceremony, Shen Yang, Director of the Research Department of the System of Theories of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics at the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, delivered the concluding remarks.
It is reported that the Series on the Historical Experience of the Party’s Centenary Struggle consists of ten independent volumes focusing on: the leadership of the Party, putting people first, theoretical innovation, independence and self-reliance, the Chinese path, maintaining a global perspective, pioneering and innovation, courage to struggle, the united front, and self-revolution. These volumes present a multi-perspective, panoramic, and deep-level display of the course of the Communist Party of China leading the masses through over a hundred years of bloody battle, self-reliance, emancipating the mind [4], and maintaining self-confidence and self-improvement through united struggle. It includes moving and epic stories, rich and vivid examples, persuasive and powerful ideological theories, and invaluable historical experience.

This conference was hosted by the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies and Jinan Publishing House, and organized by the Department of Research on the Sinicization of Marxism at the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, the School of Marxism at the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Jinan Publishing House.
