The 10th International Forum on Socialism Convened

On November 4, the 10th International Forum on Socialism was held in Guilin, China. The theme of this year's forum was "Socialist Modernization: Theory and Practice." Participating experts engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions centered on the rich connotations and global significance of Chinese-path modernization, the relationship and trends between socialist modernization and the world socialist movement, and the national characteristics and common features of socialist modernization across different countries.

Tạ Minh Tuấn, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; Khamlaxy Keobounphanh, Vice President of the Lao Academy of Social and Economic Sciences; Jin Hualun, Deputy Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee; and He Zubin, Party Committee Secretary of Guangxi Normal University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Xin Xiangyang, Party Committee Secretary and President of the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), presided over the opening ceremony.

Nearly 40 Chinese and foreign experts delivered plenary speeches, including Xin Xiangyang, as well as Wang Tingda, Dean of the School of Marxism at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS); Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Director of the Institute of Chinese Studies at the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; Saysavanh Thiengthepvongsa, Director of the Institute of Socio-Economic Policy Research at the Lao Academy of Social and Economic Sciences; and Lin Jianhua, Vice President of the Institute of Marxism Studies at CASS. During the discussion session, scholars from the three nations deliberated on issues such as comparisons of socialist modernization across different countries, the current international situation, and the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.

Participating scholars maintained that strengthening the research and synthesis of the theory and practice of socialist modernization helps us grasp historical laws, firm up historical confidence [1], enhance historical consciousness [2], and seize historical initiative. Such efforts will enable the writing of a new chapter in the history of scientific socialism in the 21st century on the new journey [3] of comprehensively advancing socialist modernization.

More than 100 experts and scholars from China, Vietnam, and Laos conducted discussions around three topics: "Marxism and Modernization Theory," "Chinese-path Modernization and the World Socialist Movement," and "The General Laws of Modernization and the Universal Laws of Socialist Modernization."

Following the meeting, the heads of the three delegations consulted and reached an initial consensus on the theme, time, and location of the 11th International Forum on Socialism, which will be held in Laos in 2024.

The forum was jointly organized by the Institute of Marxism Studies at CASS, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the Lao Academy of Social and Economic Sciences, and Guangxi Normal University. It was co-hosted by the Department of International Communist Movement Studies of the Institute of Marxism Studies at CASS, the School of Marxism at Guangxi Normal University, and the Center for Marxist Theory and Regional Practice Research, a key research base for humanities and social sciences in Guangxi universities.
