Director Niu Jusheng introduced the basic situation of the Laos-Greater Mekong Subregion National Research Center at Suzhou University, as well as the construction, disciplinary setup, talent cultivation, and future development of Soochow University in Laos. According to Director Niu, the Laos-GMS National Research Center conducts targeted research on the politics, economy, culture, foreign policy, and relations with China of countries along the route. Together with Soochow University in Laos, it contributes to promoting the construction of a regional community of shared interests and a community with a shared future [3] between China and the Greater Mekong Subregion countries, providing intellectual support for the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative [4]. Against the backdrop of the Party Central Committee’s emphasis on strengthening exchanges and cooperation with Laos, Soochow University in Laos is also facing new developmental opportunities. It can not only cultivate a large number of talents who possess an international perspective and are proficient in the Lao language but also promote cooperation and exchange between China and Laos in the economic, cultural, and social fields.
The research delegation engaged in deep scientific exchange with six Laotian international students from the Business School, the School of Politics and Public Administration, and the School of Liberal Arts at Suzhou University, including Sun Lixia, Tang Lingyang, and Zhang Chengfeng. The Laotian students participated very actively in this symposium; some expressed their intention to remain in China to live and work after graduation and consulted the research group on how to stay in China and potential employment directions. The research group provided patient answers to these inquiries.
