Lin Jianhua, Vice President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Leads a Delegation to Uzbekistan and Russia for Academic Exchanges

From April 22 to 29, 2024, Lin Jianhua, Vice President of the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), led a delegation to Uzbekistan and Russia. The delegation attended international academic conferences, negotiated academic cooperation and exchange matters, promoted Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era, and conducted field research on the national conditions of the host countries. The delegation included Researcher [1] Chen Airu, Director of the International Communist Party Theory Research Office of the Department of Foreign Marxism Studies at the Institute of Marxism Studies, CASS; Associate Researcher Tian Kun, Director of the Party Building and Party History Research Office of the Department of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; Associate Researcher Pan Xihua, Director of the History of the International Communist Movement Research Office of the Department of International Communist Movement Studies; and Assistant Researcher Shan Chao from the World Socialism Research Center of the Institute of Marxism Studies.

I. Visit to Bukhara State University in Uzbekistan for Discussion and Exchange

On April 23, the visiting delegation arrived at Bukhara State University in Uzbekistan and held a discussion with Vice Rector Zhukov, who is responsible for international cooperation and exchange. The two sides engaged in deep discussions regarding the construction achievements of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era; the primary content, core tenets, systemic logic, and vital significance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; and the leading significance of China’s achievements in the battle against poverty [2] for other developing countries.

II. Visit to Saint Petersburg for Discussions with Experts from the Russian Center for Institutional Innovation

On April 25, in Saint Petersburg, Russia, the delegation held a symposium with experts and scholars from the Russian Center for Institutional Innovation to discuss issues such as cadre cultivation and ideological security.

III. Participation in International Academic Conferences in Moscow and Discussions with the CPRF and Scholars

On April 26, the delegation participated in the international seminar "Marxism in a Multipolar World: Theory and Reality," hosted by the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences. More than 20 experts and scholars from research institutions and universities, including the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Higher School of Economics (Moscow), participated in the seminar.

On April 28, the delegation held separate discussions with Dmitry Novikov, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF); Yuri Tavrovsky, Vice Chairman of the Russia-China Friendship Association; senior researchers V. G. Burov and V. N. Shevchenko from the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences; and E. A. Kotelenets, author of the book Defending Lenin: Latest Research and Debates.

1. Meeting with Novikov, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the CPRF Novikov participated in the meeting alongside two other members of the CPRF. He noted that the CPRF pays close attention to new developments and achievements in the field of Marxist research. Novikov also expressed great interest in the specifics of the World Socialism Forum, which he regards as an important platform for uniting global leftist intellectuals. He indicated that the CPRF would continue to actively support the Forum’s work.

2. Discussion with Tavrovsky, Vice Chairman of the Russia-China Friendship Association Tavrovsky is a renowned Russian Sinologist who has long followed the development and changes of China in the New Era, having authored several books on the subject. During the discussion, the two sides exchanged views on topics such as the "further development of Sino-Russian friendly relations," "Chinese-path modernization," and "ideological construction in Russia." The delegation promoted Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era by highlighting new developments and changes in the cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics.

3. Discussion with Professors Burov and Shevchenko of the Institute of Philosophy, Russian Academy of Sciences Professors Burov and Shevchenko are Russian Marxist scholars who have long supported the socialist path of development and persisted in Marxist and socialist research. Both professors have visited China many times and have consistently followed the cause of building Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era. They spoke highly of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era; consequently, they felt particularly gratified by the delegation’s visit. Despite being in their eighties and nineties, they insisted on meeting with the delegation to learn about China’s new developments and changes. The delegation presented them with the Russian edition of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China, journals published by our Institute, and works by our Institute’s scholars. Their excitement upon receiving these new materials was evident.

4. Discussion with Russian Historian Kotelenets Kotelenets is a renowned Russian historian with significant achievements in the study of Soviet history. Her monograph, Defending Lenin: Latest Research and Debates, has been translated and introduced in China. During the discussion, Kotelenets shared her insights and latest writings on Lenin and expressed a desire for continued academic cooperation. The delegation introduced the latest progress in Chinese research on Marxism-Leninism and provided a detailed introduction to the original contributions of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Both sides presented each other with books and journals, expressing their shared desire to promote further academic communication and exchange.
