Symposium on the Publication of "Research on the Fundamental Issues of the 'Two Combinations'" Held
Chinese Social Sciences Net report (Reporter Wang Chunyan): On June 7th, a publishing symposium for Research on the Basic Issues of the "Two Combinations" [1] was held in Beijing. Zhen Zhanmin, Vice President and Member of the Party Leadership Group of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Experts and scholars from CASS, the Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC (National Academy of Governance), Beijing Normal University, Renmin University of China, Peking University, and Tsinghua University participated in the symposium. They conducted in-depth discussions on the book's writing characteristics, publishing value, and how to further improve research on the basic issues of the "Two Combinations."
Zhen Zhanmin stated that the "Two Combinations" profoundly reveal the internal mechanism of the innovative development of Marxism in China, greatly deepening the systematic understanding of the laws governing the Sinicization and modernization of Marxism. It also points out the correct direction for continuously opening new frontiers in the Sinicization and modernization of Marxism. As a glorious example of the "Two Combinations," Xi Jinping Thought on Culture consciously adheres to and creatively applies the Marxist worldview and methodology. It examines and resolves cultural issues in contemporary China through the lens of the "Big View of History" [2], the "Big View of Culture," and the "Big View of the Times," endowing cultural development with deeper historical heritage, a broader cultural perspective, and more distinct characteristics of the era.
Zhen Zhanmin noted that only by deepening research and interpretation, and truly explaining the basic issues of the "Two Combinations" clearly and thoroughly, can the practical process of the Party’s innovative theories be effectively advanced. Workers in the philosophy and social sciences must persist in taking Xi Jinping Thought on Culture as their guide. They should carry out interdisciplinary and organized scientific research, strengthen research on fundamental and "primordial point" issues, and continue to push forward the research and interpretation of the "Two Combinations" to provide academic support for building a modern Chinese civilization. Research on the Basic Issues of the "Two Combinations" maintains the unity of political and academic integrity, as well as the unity of ideological and intellectual content. It fully absorbs the research results of the social science theoretical circles while offering many innovations. It is believed that this book will provide an important reference for the ideological and theoretical circles to study the "Two Combinations" in depth and provide helpful assistance for Party members and cadres to study and comprehend the "Two Combinations."
Han Qingxiang, a first-grade professor at the Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC (National Academy of Governance), stated that Research on the Basic Issues of the "Two Combinations" is a masterpiece that provides a theoretical interpretation, academic expression, and systematic construction of the proposition of the "Two Combinations." The book focuses closely on the basic issues, conducting in-depth research on the internal components and basic connotations of the "Two Combinations." Yang Geng, former Vice President of Beijing Normal University, stated that fine traditional Chinese culture and Marxism share commonalities and points of convergence. These commonalities and convergences are the theoretical premise and basis for combining the basic tenets of Marxism with fine traditional Chinese culture; they are the internal necessity that allows fine traditional Chinese culture to be combined with the basic tenets of Marxism. We should take the practice of Chinese-path modernization as our cognitive coordinate to find the commonalities and convergences between Marxism and fine traditional Chinese culture. Furthermore, we should carry out the creative transformation and innovative development [5] of those elements of fine traditional Chinese culture that share commonalities with Marxism, allowing the two to merge into one and create a new, organically unified cultural lifeform.
Zang Fengyu, Dean and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Philosophy at Renmin University of China, stated that Research on the Basic Issues of the "Two Combinations" profoundly explains the internal components and mutual relationships of the "Two Combinations," and provides an in-depth interpretation of how the "Second Combination" constitutes another "liberation of the mind" [6]. Through reading this book, we profoundly realize that the combination of the basic tenets of Marxism with China’s specific realities and with fine traditional Chinese culture is not only a historical fact that has spanned over a century but also a historical necessity and a scientific method.
