Call for Papers: The 11th CASS Scientific Socialism Forum & The 11th CASS Mao Zedong Thought Forum

In order to deeply study, publicize, and implement the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee [1] of the CPC, and to conduct in-depth research and interpretation of the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches at the Forum on Cultural Inheritance and Development [2] and the Symposium Commemorating the 130th Anniversary of the Birth of Comrade Mao Zedong, this forum is convened. Its purpose is to explore the historical, theoretical, and practical logic of comprehensively advancing the construction of a strong state and the great cause of national rejuvenation through Chinese-path modernization, while enhancing academic exchange among researchers of scientific socialism and Mao Zedong Thought across the nation.

The 11th Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Scientific Socialism Forum and the 11th CASS Mao Zedong Thought Forum will be jointly hosted by the Institute of Marxism Studies at CASS, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, and Xi’an University of Technology. It will be organized by the Department of Marxism Sinicization Research at the Institute of Marxism Studies (CASS), the School of Marxism at Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, the School of Marxism at Xi’an University of Technology, and the School of Marxism at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The forum is scheduled to take place on September 21, 2024, in Xi’an. We hereby solicit papers from academic colleagues across the country and welcome your participation through submission.

I. Forum Theme Chinese-path Modernization and the Modern Civilization of the Chinese Nation

II. Time and Venue Forum Schedule: September 20 to 22, 2024. Registration on September 20 (Friday), formal sessions on September 21 (Saturday), and departure on September 22 (Sunday). Venue: Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, Xi’an, Shaanxi Province.

III. Forum Topics

  1. Comprehensively deepening reform and Chinese-path modernization.
  2. Research on the academic and systematic theoretical framework of Chinese-path modernization.
  3. The "Two Combinations" [3] and the modern civilization of the Chinese nation.
  4. Construction mechanisms of the modern civilization of the Chinese nation.
  5. Major achievements and basic principles of comprehensively deepening reform.
  6. Mao Zedong Thought and Chinese-path modernization.
  7. Mao Zedong Thought and the modern civilization of the Chinese nation.
  8. Hot topics and focal points in the research of Mao Zedong Thought in the New Era.
  9. Research on major theoretical and practical issues of scientific socialism.
  10. New trends and characteristics in the development of contemporary world socialism.

IV. Submission Requirements This forum adopts a "participation via paper" policy. We sincerely invite teaching staff, researchers, and graduate students from national research institutions, institutions of higher education, and Party and government departments to actively submit manuscripts.

Submission Deadline: August 20, 2024.

Manuscript Requirements:

  1. Submissions must maintain a correct political stance [4], feature a clear theme and rigorous logic, and combine historical analysis with theoretical inquiry. They should reflect academic rigor and innovation, possessing high theoretical and practical value.
  2. Papers must be original, unpublished works, generally between 8,000 and 12,000 words. Please use bottom-of-page footnotes and follow the publication format of Marxist Studies (Makesizhuyi yanjiu). The main text should be preceded by an abstract (approx. 300 words), keywords (3-5), a brief author biography, and detailed contact information.

No registration fee will be charged for this forum. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and accommodation expenses.

Following selection by the expert review committee, the organizing committee will issue formal invitation letters to selected authors by September 10. Outstanding papers will be selected for recommendation for publication in Marxist Studies and World Socialism Studies.
