Notice on Holding a Theoretical Seminar to Celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China and to Study and Implement the Guiding Principles of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and is a critical year for achieving the goals and tasks of the "14th Five-Year Plan" [1]. In order to deeply study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee [2], and to review and summarize the developmental course, major achievements, and experiential insights of the various undertakings of the Party and the State since the founding of New China, the "Theoretical Symposium Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China and Studying and Implementing the Spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee" will be held. This symposium is jointly organized by the Institute of Marxism Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Soochow University, and co-hosted by the Department of Marxist Sinicization Research at the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies and the School of Marxism at Soochow University. The meeting is scheduled to be held from November 1–3, 2024, in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. We sincerely invite experts and scholars to write papers centered on the theme of the conference and to favor us with their presence for discussion. The relevant matters are announced as follows:

I. Conference Theme Further Comprehensively Deepening Reform and Advancing Chinese-path Modernization

II. Scope of Reference Topics (Titles may be self-selected)

  1. Research on General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on comprehensively deepening reform.
  2. Research on the great achievements and valuable experiences of comprehensively deepening reform and opening up in the New Era.
  3. Research on accelerating the formation of relations of production that are better adapted to new quality productive forces.
  4. Research on further advancing Chinese-path modernization by utilizing reform and opening up as a "crucial magic weapon" [3].
  5. Research on the great historical process, great achievements, significant importance, and valuable experience of the 75th anniversary of the founding of New China.
  6. Research on the history and experience of the Communist Party of China's advancement of Chinese-path modernization over the 75 years since the founding of New China.
  7. Research on the achievements, challenges, and future paths of ecological civilization construction over the 75 years since the founding of New China.
  8. Research on the path exploration and practice of high-quality development in Party building in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of the founding of New China.
  9. Research on the innovation of development and training models for "Ideological and Political Theory" [4] teachers in the New Era.
  10. Research on upholding the fundamentals and breaking new ground to promote the inner-style development of "Ideological and Political Theory" courses in the New Era.

IV. Submission Requirements

  1. This conference adopts a "participation via paper" format. After submissions undergo expert review, invitations will be sent to selected participants; specific arrangements for the meeting will be notified separately. Experts and scholars nationwide engaged in research on Marxist theory and related disciplines, as well as doctoral students majoring in Marxist theory, are actively encouraged to submit manuscripts. You may choose your own angle and title based on the conference topics. Papers should ideally be 10,000–15,000 characters in length, featuring clear themes, correct viewpoints, and lucid argumentation. They should reflect academic rigor and innovation and must be unpublished.
  2. Layout requirements: A4 paper format with default margins. The main text must be preceded by the title, author's name and affiliation, abstract (approx. 300 characters), and keywords (3–5). References should consistently use footnotes (refer to the submission style of Marxist Studies or the Journal of Soochow University (Philosophy & Social Science Edition)). An author biography (including name, affiliation, position/title, contact phone, email, mailing address, etc.) should be appended to the end.
  3. Typography requirements: The article title should use Font Size 3 Bold Heiti (Sans-serif); author name and affiliation use Font Size 4 Kaiti (Regular script); abstract and keywords use Small Font Size 4 Fangsong (Imitation Song). Heading levels are: "一、二、三...", "(一)、(二)、(三)...", "1、2、3...". Level 1 headings: Font Size 4 Heiti; Level 2 headings: Small Font Size 4 Bold Songti (Serif); Level 3 headings: Small Font Size 4 Songti. Footnotes: Font Size 5 Songti. Body text and author bio: Small Font Size 4 Songti. Line spacing: 1.5 throughout.

V. Selection of Submissions Following the submission deadline, our university will organize experts to review the submitted papers according to the principles of openness, fairness, and justice. The list of selected papers will be released before October 20; please follow the "Sudamayuan" [Soochow University School of Marxism] WeChat official account for the announcement. Outstanding papers will be published after the conference in the collected volume Research on Marxist Sinicization (Mǎkèsīzhǔyì Zhōngguóhuà yánjiū).

VI. Submission Method Please send the electronic manuscript as a Word document to the conference email: cnstwenjuan@163.com. The email subject and filename should be formatted as "Affiliation + Name + Paper Title." The deadline for submission is October 18, 2024.
