The Selected Economic Works of Xi Jinping (Volume I) and Theoretical Innovation in the Economy of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics — Call for Papers for the 35th Annual Academic Conference of the Chinese Association of Political Economy
In order to deeply study and implement the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee [1], to study and research the recently published and distributed first volume of the Selected Economic Works of Xi Jinping, to promote the systematization and academic theorization of Xi Jinping’s economic thought, and to advance the theoretical innovation and practical application of socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics, the Chinese Association of Political Economy (CAPE) intends to hold its 35th Annual Academic Conference from October 25 to 26, 2025, at the Tsinghua Sanya International Mathematics Forum (Sanya, Hainan Province). The conference is co-hosted by the Chinese Association of Political Economy and Tsinghua University. It is organized by the Academy of Marxism of Tsinghua University; the Center for Research on Marxist Economic & Social Development of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; the Institute of Economics of the School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University; and the Institute of Shanghai-School of Economics of the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Co-organizers include the editorial boards of the journals Studies in Political Economy, Political Economy Quarterly, World Review of Political Economy, Contemporary Economic Research, and Shanghai-School of Economics.
We now cordially invite submissions from internal teaching and research personnel at institutions of higher learning, scientific research institutions, and other relevant units across the nation.
I. Conference Theme The theme of this conference is: The Selected Economic Works of Xi Jinping (Volume I) and Theoretical Innovation in the Economy of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics.
II. Primary Research and Discussion Topics Centering on the conference theme, this meeting will focus on the following areas:
- Research on the systematization and academic theorization of Xi Jinping’s economic thought.
- Methodological research on Xi Jinping’s economic thought for the New Era of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
- Research on Chinese-path modernization and the autonomous knowledge system [2] of socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics.
- Research on upholding and improving the basic socialist economic system [3].
- Research on new quality productive forces and high-quality development.
- Theoretical and practical research on a high-level socialist market economy system.
- Research on deepening the reform of the system for ecological civilization [4] and green, low-carbon development.
- Research on consolidating and improving the basic rural management system and rural revitalization [5].
- Research on the development trends of contemporary capitalist economies and China’s high-level socialist opening up to the outside world.
- Mathematical political economy analysis of economic development in socialism with Chinese characteristics.
III. Submission Requirements
- Submissions must adhere to the correct political direction and academic orientation, highlight the theme, maintain rigorous argumentation, and reflect academic quality and innovation.
- Citations must be standardized and accurate. Use footnotes (bottom of the page) and restart numbering on each page.
- Papers should be submitted in Word format, using 10.5pt Songti (SimSun) for the main text and 12pt Bold Heiti for subheadings, with 1.5 line spacing. Papers should ideally be between 8,000 and 12,000 characters. A title page must be attached including the title, an abstract (approximately 350 characters), keywords (3–5), a brief author biography, and detailed contact information (mailing address, mobile phone number, and email). For specific formatting, please refer to papers published in Studies in Political Economy.

IV. Other Explanations
- This conference will feature sub-forums for postdoctoral researchers and graduate students. Postdoctoral researchers and current Master’s/PhD students committed to Marxist political economy research are encouraged to submit papers.
- The organizing committee will issue formal invitation letters to authors of selected papers by October 20, 2025.
- Selected papers will be included in the conference proceedings to be published by Economic Science Press. Outstanding papers will be recommended for publication in journals such as Studies in Political Economy, Political Economy Quarterly, Contemporary Economic Research, Shanghai-School of Economics, and World Review of Political Economy.
