Call for Papers: The 13th International Forum on the Communist Movement

Dear Expert/Scholar:

On January 5, 2013, at the opening ceremony of the Seminar for New Members and Alternate Members of the Central Committee to Study and Implement the Spirit of the 18th National Congress [1], General Secretary Xi Jinping examined and summarized the grand history of socialist development, elucidating the status and role of socialism with Chinese characteristics within world socialism. In order to deeply study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, solidly advance research on the theory and practice of world socialism, and strive to construct an independent knowledge system for world socialism and the international communist movement that possesses Chinese characteristics, Chinese style, and Chinese manner [2], the Institute of Marxism Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the Faculty of Marxism at Northeast Normal University will jointly host the 13th International Communist Movement Forum. This forum is organized by the Department of International Communist Movement Studies of the Institute of Marxism Studies at CASS and the Faculty of Marxism at Northeast Normal University, with the editorial departments of Marxism Studies (Makesizhuyi yanjiu) and World Socialism Studies (Shijie shehuizhuyi yanjiu) as co-organizers. It is scheduled to be held in mid-October 2025 in Changchun, Jilin Province.

The specific arrangements for the meeting are as follows:

Conference Theme: The History, Theory, and Reality of World Socialism

Conference Topics:

  1. The historical process and development prospects of world socialism
  2. Historical experiences and lessons of the international communist movement
  3. Research on major international organizations, historical figures, and historical events in the history of the international communist movement
  4. Research on new changes in contemporary capitalism and its relationship with socialism
  5. The current status and development trends of socialism abroad
  6. The status and contribution of socialism with Chinese characteristics within the world socialist movement

II. Conference Timing Mid-October 2025

III. Conference Location Northeast Normal University, Changchun, Jilin

IV. Methods of Participation Participation is based on the submission of papers; invitations will be extended based on merit. We welcome scholars to submit papers and register. Please send your conference paper to the registration email (gjgylt2025@163.com) before September 25, 2025. After the organizing committee conducts a review, formal invitations will be sent to the selected participants. The paper format requirements are as follows:

  1. The word count should ideally be between 8,000 and 12,000 words. It should include an abstract (within 300 words), keywords (3–5), and a brief author biography (name, institution, position or professional title, research direction, etc.).
  2. The paper font should be Simplified Chinese Songti. Titles and subtitles should be in size 3 font; the main text in size 5 font, single-spaced; annotations should use footnotes in size small-5 font; the abstract and keywords should be in size 5 font.

This conference does not charge any registration fees. The organizers will provide meals during the conference. Participants are responsible for their own round-trip transportation and accommodation expenses.
