Notice and Call for Papers for the Academic Seminar on "The 'Two Combines' and Building an Independent Knowledge System of Chinese Philosophy and Social Sciences"
To thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on the "Two Combinations" [1], profoundly grasp their core essence to stimulate the vitality of theoretical innovation, and focus on resolving the problems of "Westernization" and "aphasia" [2] existing within China's fields of philosophy and social science, the Chinese Society of Historical Materialism and the School of Marxism at Xi’an University of Technology intend to jointly host an academic symposium titled "The 'Two Combinations' and the Construction of an Independent Knowledge System for Chinese Philosophy and Social Sciences" in late April 2026 in Xi’an, Shaanxi. This symposium aims to promote the construction of an independent knowledge system for philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics that is rooted in Chinese practice, manifests Chinese wisdom, and possesses subjectivity and originality. It seeks to provide solid academic support for comprehensively advancing the construction of a strong country and the great cause of national rejuvenation through Chinese-path modernization, and to contribute Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions toward enriching and developing the new form of human civilization [3]. We are now publicly soliciting academic papers from the global academic community. We cordially invite experts and scholars to submit contributions centered on the theme of the conference, to gather in the ancient capital of Xi’an to spark intellectual exchange and jointly build an academic future.
I. Conference Theme
The theme of this symposium is "The 'Two Combinations' and the Construction of an Independent Knowledge System for Chinese Philosophy and Social Sciences." Participation is contingent upon paper acceptance. We cordially invite experts and scholars to conduct research around, but not limited to, the following topics:
- Research on the theoretical connotation, historical logic, and practical paths of the "Two Combinations."
- Research on the latest achievements in the Sinicization and modernization of Marxism and the construction of an independent knowledge system.
- Research on the creative transformation and innovative development [4] of fine traditional Chinese culture and the subjectivity of philosophy and social sciences.
- Research on the construction of the disciplinary system, academic system, and discourse system [5] of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics.
- Research on the practice of Chinese-path modernization and theoretical innovation in philosophy and social sciences.
- International dissemination and the construction of discourse power [6] for China's independent knowledge system from a trans-civilizational perspective.
- The root causes and paths to resolving the problems of "aphasia" and "Westernization" in the fields of philosophy and social science.
- Research on methodology and evaluation systems in the construction of an independent knowledge system.
- Classical Marxism and the development of contemporary Chinese philosophy and social sciences.
- The transformation of research paradigms and knowledge innovation in philosophy and social sciences in the digital age.
II. Submission Requirements
- Papers must be original academic achievements that have not been publicly published. They must maintain a correct political orientation, possess solid argumentation, clear viewpoints, and rigorous logic, and adhere to academic norms.
- The length should ideally be between 8,000 and 12,000 words, including an abstract, keywords, main text, notes, and references.
- The specific format of the submission should be strictly adjusted according to the "Appendix" requirements at the end of this document.
- The deadline for submissions for this conference is March 31, 2026. Within the aforementioned timeframe, please send the manuscript (Word or PDF format) titled "Institution - Name - Paper Title - Status (Teacher/Student)" as an attachment to the designated conference email address. Please indicate "Submission for the 'Two Combinations' and the Construction of an Independent Knowledge System for Chinese Philosophy and Social Sciences Academic Symposium" in the email subject line.
- Please provide the author's name, institution, title/educational background, and contact information (phone, email) in the form of a note at the end of the text. The organizing committee will arrange for an anonymous peer review by experts and will notify authors of acceptance results and participation arrangements by mid-April 2026.

No conference registration fee will be charged. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and accommodation expenses. Working meals during the conference will be arranged by the organizers.
