Resume of Comrade Cheng Enfu
Cheng Enfu was born in 1950 in Shanghai, with ancestral roots in Hefei. After graduating with a major in political economy from Fudan University, he remained at the university as a teaching assistant and lecturer. He was later transferred to the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, where he served as an associate professor, professor, doctoral supervisor, and Dean of the School of Economics and the Institute of Marxism Studies. In 2005, he was transferred to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). He currently serves as a Member of the CASS Academic Division, a member of the CASS Academic Division Presidium, and a Chief Professor at the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He previously served as the Director of the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies and Director of the Academic Division of Marxist Studies.
At present, Professor Cheng Enfu serves as the chief editor of international journals published in the United Kingdom, including the World Review of Political Economy and the International Critical Thought. Domestically, he edits the Chinese publications Research on Political Economy and the Shanghai School of Economics Quarterly. He holds the positions of President of the World Association for Political Economy (a global academic organization), Honorary President of the China Association of Political Economy, Honorary President of the Chinese Association for the Research of Foreign Economic Theories, Chairperson of the World Cultural Forum, and Chairperson of the China Forum on Innovative Marxism.
He was a deputy to the 11th and 12th National People's Congresses and a member of the Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee of the 13th National People's Congress. He is a Chief Expert of the Central Marx Project [1], a judge for the National and Ministry of Education Social Science Funds, and was a member of the Marxism Theory Discipline Review Group of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee during its 6th and 7th terms. Additionally, he serves as an international consultant for the Japan Society of Political Economy and is an honorary professor at Moscow State University and Saint Petersburg State University in Russia, as well as the University of Economics and Law.
He has published more than 800 articles and over 40 books across ten countries, including China, the United States, Russia, Japan, Türkiye, Italy, India, and Vietnam. Chinese scholars have compiled and published the first and second volumes of Research on Cheng Enfu's Academic Thought (a collection of proceedings from the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies), while scholars from over ten countries have authored and published the English collection The China School of Innovative Marxism: International Scholars on the Thought of Cheng Enfu. He has delivered lectures during collective study sessions of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee [2] and has reported on theoretical issues at symposiums presided over by two successive General Secretaries of the CPC Central Committee [3]. He is increasingly recognized at home and abroad as a renowned Marxist theorist and economist with extensive academic influence.
