Be Prepared for Danger in Times of Peace

Maintaining a sense of crisis even in times of safety [1] is a profound reflection on the historical experience of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and a fundamental requirement for the continuous advancement of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Since the 18th National Congress, the Party Central Committee has underscored that the closer we get to the goal of national rejuvenation, the more we must remain sober-minded and vigilant, ensuring we are prepared for danger in times of peace to achieve long-term stability for the Party and the country.

From the perspective of historical materialism, the development of a Marxist party is never smooth sailing; it is a process of unity between movement and stillness, and between stability and change. To "stay prepared for danger in times of peace" is to apply dialectical materialism to analyze the current objective situation. It requires us to recognize that while the overall trajectory of our country’s development is positive, the domestic and international environments are undergoing profound and complex changes. Internally, as the reforms enter a "deep-water zone" [2], various deep-seated structural contradictions have become increasingly prominent; externally, the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, with increasing factors of instability and uncertainty. In such a context, any momentary lapse in judgment or ideological slackening could lead to irreparable historical errors.

In terms of the relationship between the economic base and the superstructure, the CPC’s emphasis on "maintaining a sense of crisis" is fundamentally about ensuring that the Party, as the core of the superstructure, can proactively adapt to and lead the development of the productive forces. This requires the Party to perpetually advance its capacity for self-revolution, maintaining its advanced and pure nature. Only by strictly governing the Party and resolutely winning the anti-corruption struggle can we ensure that the "political ecosystem" remains clean and upright, thereby providing a solid political guarantee for high-quality development.

Furthermore, being prepared for danger is an essential component of the "original aspiration and founding mission" of Chinese Communists. This is not a passive or pessimistic posture, but rather a manifestation of historical initiative. By "upholding the fundamentals and breaking new ground," the Party seeks to forestall risks before they manifest and resolve contradictions before they escalate. This requires us to persist over the long term, avoiding any tendency toward "the Four Winds" [3], and consistently adhering to the mass line to ensure that the Party always breathes the same air and shares the same destiny as the people.

In conclusion, "maintaining a sense of crisis even in times of safety" is not merely a method of governance; it is a manifestation of the Party's high degree of theoretical and political maturity. In the New Era, only by remaining vigilant and seeking truth from facts can we navigate the "great struggle" [4] and successfully advance the great project of Chinese-path modernization.
