Contemporary Chinese Marxist Economists: Critique and Innovation

The book titled Contemporary Chinese Marxist Economists: Critique and Innovation, compiled and edited by Professor Liu Sihua, Director and Senior Researcher of the Marxist Economics Research Center at Guangxi University, has recently been completed by our center and published by World Publishing Corporation.

Across the global economic, social, and ecological spheres, the contradictions created and exacerbated by capitalist systems, policies, and concepts are prompting an increasing number of people of insight to rethink the developmental direction and path of human society. It is in this context that the multi-school Marxist economics gradually developing in China is garnering significant attention from both international and domestic economic theoretical circles. This will contribute to the flourishing of scientific economic thought in China and the world, promoting continuous economic and social progress. Marxist economics, both in China and abroad, is bound to exert a profound and inspiring influence.

This book carefully selects and compiles papers from renowned contemporary Chinese Marxist economic experts and scholars across different age groups:

Those in their 80s include Liu Guoguang, Hu Daiguang, Wei Xinghua, Zhang Xunhua, and Xiang Qiyuan; those in their 70s include Wu Yifeng, Wu Xuangong, Hong Yuanpeng, Yang Chengxun, and Liu Sihua; those in their 60s include Cheng Enfu, Lin Gang, Wang Zhenzhong, Li Bingyan, and He Ganqiang; those in their 50s include Zuo Dapei, Bai Baoli, Ma Yan, Yang Zhi, and Zhang Zhongren; and those in their 40s include Hu Leming, Yu Bin, Zhang Yu, Meng Jie, and Ding Baojun. Collectively, they have formed a colorful array of Marxist economic theories and academic styles.

Author Biography:

Liu Sihua was born in 1940 in Yunmeng, Hubei Province. In the 1960s, he worked at the former Institute of Marxism-Leninism of the CPC Central Committee. He currently serves as the Honorary Director and Senior Researcher of the Research Center for Ecological Civilization [1] and Sustainable Economy at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law; a Distinguished Researcher at the Institute of Marxism Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS); Director and Senior Researcher of the Marxist Economics Research Center at Guangxi University; Director and Honorary Professor of the Ethnic Minority Eco-Economy Research Center at Hubei Enshi College; and Vice President of the Chinese Society for Ecological Economics and Chairman of its Ecological Economics Education Committee. He is one of the earliest economists and theorists to establish the theory of coordinated development of ecology and economy, as well as the theories of ecological civilization and green economy. He is a co-founder of ecological economics, a primary founder of Chinese sustainable development economics, and the pioneer and founder of Ecological Marxist economics.

His publications are extensive, including approximately 340 papers and 40 books as sole author, lead author, co-author, or editor-in-chief. He has received 14 provincial and national-level awards. His work Principles of Ecological Marxist Economics was honored with the inaugural Distinguished Achievement Award in World Political Economy [2] in 2009.
