↩ [1] 文化传教 (wénhuà chuánjiào): "Cultural proselytization" or "cultural missionizing." In Chinese Marxist discourse, this term often refers to the use of religious, educational, or charitable activities by foreign entities as a vehicle for cultural imperialism or political influence.

↩ [2] 以教促政 (yǐ jiào cù zhèng): Mapping directly as "using religion to promote politics." This refers to the instrumentalization of religious authority for political ends, specifically targeted here at "splittism" (separatism) regarding the Tibetan sovereignty issue.

↩ [3] 新时期 (xīn shíqī): The "New Period." In 2011, this referred to the era of "Reform and Opening-up" initiated under Deng Xiaoping in 1978. It should not be confused with the "New Era" (xīn shídài) associated with Xi Jinping's leadership after 2012.
