↩ [1] 社会主义核心价值观 (shè huì zhǔ yì hé xīn jià zhí guān): First formally articulated at the 18th National Congress of the CPC (2012), these consist of twelve values categorized at the national (prosperity, democracy, civility, harmony), social (freedom, equality, justice, rule of law), and individual levels (patriotism, dedication, integrity, friendship).

"Sinicization" here refers to adapting the classic Marxist critique of religion (as the "opium of the people") to China’s specific historical conditions, emphasizing state management, the separation of church and state, and the "mutual adaptation" of religion and socialist society.
