↩ [1] 人体科学 (réntǐ kēxué): "Somatic Science" or "Human Body Science" was a controversial research program in the 1980s and 90s championed by high-level scientists like Qian Xuesen. It sought to provide a scientific veneer to 特异功能 (tèyì gōngnéng, "exceptional functions" or PSI powers/extrasensory perception) and Qigong, often blending traditional Chinese medicine with parapsychology. This remains a significant point of debate in Chinese Marxist discourse regarding "superstition" versus "science."
