Contents of "International Review of Ideology," Issue 1, 2024
The 2024 first issue (Volume 14, Issue 1) of International Critical Thought (《国际思想评论》), an English-language academic journal hosted by the Academy of Marxism [1] of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), has been officially published. This issue features a special symposium titled "Chinese-path Modernization and Its World Significance," along with several high-quality research articles addressing the vitality of Leninist theory, the evolution of imperialism, and the development of world socialism.
Guided by the spirit of the New Era, the symposium papers explore the theoretical depth of Chinese-path modernization from the perspectives of political economy and historical materialism. Scholars such as He Zili and Wang Chuanzhi analyze the unique characteristics and essential requirements of this path, emphasizing how it differs from Western capitalist modernization through its commitment to common prosperity and the "Five-Sphere Integrated Plan." Yuan Yinchuan provides a comparative study of the common properties of modernization and the specific Chinese characteristics that define the nation’s current trajectory. Furthermore, Han Xiping and Du Du discuss the internal drivers of high-quality development, arguing that promoting Chinese-path modernization requires a profound resolution of the principal contradiction in society [2].
In the "Articles" section, the journal upholds the principle of "uphold the fundamentals and break new ground," featuring Joe Pateman’s analysis of the contemporary relevance of V. I. Lenin’s theory of ideology and Tony Andreani’s investigation into the structural transformations of imperialism. Additionally, the "Information and Trends" section provides a comprehensive review of the 13th World Socialism Forum, focusing on the theme of "Building a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity to Jointly Revitalize World Socialism."
Since its founding in March 2011, International Critical Thought has served as an important platform for "Sinicized" Marxist scholarship to engage in dialogue with the international left. The journal persists over the long term in its mission to integrate academic rigor with social concern, reflecting the original aspiration and founding mission of Chinese Marxist researchers to contribute to the progress of human civilization. We welcome submissions that utilize diverse research tools to reflect on the past and inquire into the future of the socialist movement.
