Party Branch of the International Communist Movement Research Department of the Academy of Marxism Conducts Thematic Educational Research at Yunnan Honghe University
On the morning of July 10, members of the Party Branch of the Department of International Communist Movement Studies of the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) traveled to Honghe University in Yunnan Province to conduct a thematic education [1] research activity. The research focused on two primary themes: first, the specialized experiences of Honghe University in deeply studying and implementing the Theme Education Activity on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; and second, the current status of the university's research concerning Vietnam and Laos.
Hong Bo, Secretary of the University Party Committee, met with the research group. The symposium was chaired by Ma Hongbo, Dean of the School of Marxism. Participants included heads of relevant departments: Zhu Xin, Member of the University Party Committee and Director of the Organization Department; Yang Shenxuan, Member of the University Party Committee and Director of the Publicity Department; Ye Shaofei, Vice Dean of the Institute of Area Studies; Shi Jianguang, Director of the Library; Shao Jianping, Professor at the School of Marxism; and Liu Lian, Deputy Director of the Office.
Honghe University is a full-time public undergraduate institution jointly established and managed by Yunnan Province and Honghe Prefecture, with the province taking primary responsibility. The university uses the "Gateway University" [2] (guómén dàxué) concept to build a new frontier for the opening-up of higher education in border regions. Since its founding, Honghe University has achieved prolific results in conducting research on neighboring countries and collaborating on pedagogical research.
At the symposium, Pan Jine, Secretary of the Party Branch, introduced the main purpose of the research group’s visit and provided a brief overview of the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies. Zhu Xin, Director of the Organization Department, introduced the implementation of the theme education activity at Honghe University. The theme education has been fully launched, focusing on theoretical study, investigation and research, cautionary rectification, and promoting development. Regarding investigation and research, the focus is on twelve specific areas, while simultaneously driving rectification and remediation to address problems in nine major aspects. In accordance with the requirements of Yunnan Province, the university will continue to further promote in-depth study, supervise implementation, and conduct effective publicity and reporting to deepen the theme education activity.
Yang Shenxuan, Director of the Publicity Department, introduced the distinctive highlights of the university’s work in deeply studying and implementing the theme education on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. For instance, the university has adopted methods such as reading groups, specialized tutoring, and the combination of "red immersive education" [3] with negative cautionary education [4]. Within the theme education activity, emphasis is also placed on the theoretical dissemination and interpretation of doctrine, as well as international exchange and communication. The theme education activity has been carried out in a comprehensive and solid manner with significant results.
Ye Shaofei, Vice Dean of the Institute of Area Studies, introduced the status of Vietnam studies at the university. Honghe University leverages its geographical advantage of being adjacent to Vietnam to serve as a "radiation center" [5] for South Asia and Southeast Asia, cultivating comprehensive talents in regional and country studies. The university began its research on Vietnam in 2004 and now hosts the "Vietnam Research Center" under the Ministry of Education and the "Sri Lanka Research Center" under the National Ethnic Affairs Commission. It has also been approved for the Yunnan Provincial innovative discipline of "Regional and Country Studies." The "Red River Basin Social Development Forum" and the "Red River Basin University Presidents Forum" organized by the school enjoy considerable reputation and influence.
Shao Jianping, Professor at the School of Marxism, introduced the current status of the school’s research on Vietnam and Laos. Shi Jianguang, Deputy Director of the Library, introduced the status and advantages of research regarding the China-Vietnam border.
Researcher Pan Jine thanked Honghe University for its support of this research activity, noting that the symposium yielded rich results. She stated that the group learned from Honghe University’s distinctive experiences and activities in conducting theme education on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Pan further remarked that Honghe University possesses unique characteristics and advantages in conducting research and cooperation regarding Vietnam and Laos by utilizing its locational advantages, expressing hope that both parties can further engage in in-depth exchange and cooperation in the future.
