The Theoretical Learning Center Group of the Party Leadership Group of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Conducts In-Depth Study and Discussion of the First Volume of "Selected Economic Works of Xi Jinping"

Chinese Social SciencesNet (Reporter: Gao Ying) — On April 27, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) convened the third 2025 meeting (enlarged) of the Theoretical Learning Center Group ^[1] of the Leading Party Members’ Group. The meeting aimed to conduct an in-depth study and comprehension of Xi Jinping’s economic thought and a serious study and discussion of the first volume of the Selected Economic Works of Xi Jinping. Gao翔 (Gao Xiang), President and Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech. Also attending the meeting were Vice President and Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group Peng Jinhui, Vice President and Member of the Leading Party Members’ Group Zhen Zhanmin, Head of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Group of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision stationed at CASS and Member of the Leading Party Members’ Group Hang Yuanxiang, Secretary-General and Member of the Leading Party Members’ Group Zhao Zhimin, and Vice President and Member of the Leading Party Members’ Group Zhao Rui. Zhen Zhanmin delivered the keynote remarks.

The meeting pointed out that studying and implementing the first volume of the Selected Economic Works of Xi Jinping is a major political, theoretical, and academic task for CASS. It is essential to persist in "reading the original works, studying the original texts, and grasping the original principles" ^[2], so as to deeply comprehend the power of truth and the rich connotations of Xi Jinping’s economic thought. It is necessary to profoundly grasp the epochal characteristics, theoretical qualities, and practical prowess of Xi Jinping’s economic thought, and to effectively align thinking and action with the major decision-making deployments of the Party Central Committee regarding economic work.

The meeting emphasized that all departments affiliated with the Academy, particularly the Division of Economics, must consistently adhere to the correct political direction. In conjunction with rectifications following the Central Inspection ^[3] and the educational study on the in-depth implementation of the spirit of the Eight-Point Regulations, these departments must put effort into deep study and thorough comprehension ^[4], effectively transforming the efficacy of learning into vivid practices for performing their duties and promoting the development of the Academy’s undertakings. Efforts must be made to leverage the advantages of our Academy’s economic disciplines and talent pool to strengthen the holistic, systematic, and scholarly research and interpretation of Xi Jinping’s economic thought, striving to forge a Chinese School of economic research. Centering on hot-button and difficult issues of a global, strategic, and forward-looking nature, the Academy should strengthen the planning of research topics and produce high-quality policy consultation results. It is necessary to deepen the reform of systems and mechanisms, strengthen the construction of the talent echelon, and further enhance the quality and efficiency of "organized scientific research" ^[5], contributing wisdom and strength to the accelerated construction of a Chinese independent system of economic knowledge ^[6].

Li Xuesong, Director of the Institute of Economics, and Zhang Yongsheng, Director of the Research Institute for Eco-civilization, delivered exchange speeches. The Deputy Secretary-General of the Academy, responsible comrades of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Group stationed at the Academy, heads of Party organizations in the Academy’s functional administrative departments, and the Party Committee secretaries of the various units within the Division of Economics attended the meeting.
