Theoretical Learning Center Group of the CPC Leadership Group of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Deeply Studies and Discusses Volume I of "Xi Jinping's Selected Works on the Economy"
According to a report by Chinese Social Sciences Net (journalist Gao Ying), the Leading Party Members’ Group Theory Learning Center Group [1] of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) held its third expanded study meeting of 2025 on April 27. The meeting was dedicated to the in-depth study and comprehension of Xi Jinping’s economic thought and a serious study and discussion of the first volume of the Selected Economic Works of Xi Jinping. Gao Xiang, President of CASS and Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech. Also in attendance were Peng Jinhui, Vice President and Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group; Zhen Zhanmin, Vice President and member of the Leading Party Members’ Group; Hang Yuanxiang, leader of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Group dispatched to CASS by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision [2] and member of the Leading Party Members’ Group; Zhao Zhimin, Secretary-General and member of the Leading Party Members’ Group; and Zhao Rui, Vice President and member of the Leading Party Members’ Group. Zhen Zhanmin delivered the keynote remarks.
The meeting pointed out that studying and implementing the first volume of the Selected Economic Works of Xi Jinping is an important political, theoretical, and academic task for CASS. It is essential to persist in "reading the original works, studying the original texts, and grasping the underlying principles" [3]. We must profoundly comprehend the power of truth and the rich connotations of Xi Jinping’s economic thought, deeply grasp its epochal characteristics, theoretical qualities, and practical might, and resolutely align our thoughts and actions with the major decisions and deployments of the Party Central Committee regarding economic work.
The meeting emphasized that all units within the Academy, particularly the Division of Economics, must always adhere to the correct political direction. In conjunction with rectified measures following central inspections [4] and the educational study for the in-depth implementation of the spirit of the Eight-Point Regulations, they must exert effort in "studying deeply and attaining thorough comprehension" [5], effectively transforming the outcomes of their study into the vivid practice of fulfilling their duties and promoting the development of the cause. We must leverage our Academy’s advantages in economic disciplines and talent to strengthen the holistic, systematic, and academic research and interpretation of Xi Jinping’s economic thought, striving to forge a "Chinese school" of economic research. We must focus on global, strategic, and forward-looking hot spots and difficult issues, improve the planning of research topics, and produce high-quality decision-making consultancy results. We must deepen institutional reforms, strengthen the construction of talent echelons, and further enhance the quality and efficiency of "organized scientific research" [6] to contribute wisdom and strength to the accelerated construction of a China-independent knowledge system for economics.
Li Xuesong, Director of the Institute of Economics, and Zhang Yongsheng, Director of the Research Institute for Eco-civilization, delivered exchange speeches. The Deputy Secretary-General of the Academy, responsible comrades from the dispatched Discipline Inspection and Supervision Group, heads of Party organizations in the Academy’s functional departments, and Party Committee secretaries from various units within the Division of Economics attended the meeting.
