Forging a Young Iron Army of Faith, Sentiment, Integrity, and Responsibility
Chinese Social Sciences Net report (Reporter Gao Ying) – On the eve of the May Fourth Youth Day [1], the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) held a youth work conference in Beijing on April 29. Gao Xiang, President of CASS and Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group, attended and delivered a speech. Hang Yuanxiang, leader of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Group Sent by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision to CASS and member of the Leading Party Members’ Group, attended the meeting. Zhao Rui, Vice President and member of the Leading Party Members’ Group, presided over the session.
The meeting pointed out that youth represent the future of CASS and the hope of the cause of philosophy and social sciences. Under the scientific guidance of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on the Party’s youth work, the Leading Party Members’ Group of the Academy has placed great importance on, held earnest expectations for, and shown profound care for the youth of the Academy. By solidifying fundamentals through the “three consensuses,” rectifying conduct through the “three promises,” and guarding the bottom line [2] through the “three measures,” the Academy has taken a series of innovative steps to support and incentivize the growth and success of young talents. These actions have led the Academy’s youth work to achieve historical achievements and realize a historical leap. The initiative of the Academy’s youth to start businesses and pursue careers [3] has fully burst forth; their enthusiasm for knowing, loving, and developing the Academy has reached unprecedented heights, forming a vivid scene of unity, progress, high spirits, and proactive endeavor.
The meeting emphasized that serving the cause of the Party and the state is both a consistent academic tradition of CASS and an unshakable responsibility of the era for all young people in the Academy. The youth of the Academy must consciously integrate their individual “small self” into the “great self” of the motherland [4]. They must hold high above their heads, carry on their shoulders, and keep in their hearts the vocational duty of serving General Secretary Xi Jinping and the Party Central Committee. They should firm up the lofty ideal of serving the country through scholarship, cultivate a deep patriotic sentiment of conducting research for the people, and strive to grow into a "youth iron army" [5] characterized by faith, sentiment, integrity, and a sense of responsibility. All subordinate units of the Academy must treat youth work as a major strategic task and implement it effectively. They must earnestly carry out the Implementation Opinions of the Leading Party Members’ Group of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences on Promoting the High-Quality Development of Youth Work, strengthen organizational leadership, persist in combining strict management with profound care, and innovate institutional mechanisms. This will create a favorable environment for outstanding young talents to emerge and gather an inexhaustible "source of living water" [6] for the cause of philosophy and social sciences.
Leadership of the Academy presented awards to representative winners. The meeting honored youth representatives who won awards such as "Model Individuals and Model Groups for Youth Theoretical Study of CASS," "Young Talents of CASS," and "CASS Youth Spring Festival Rural Survey Reports." Youth representatives read out a "Letter of Proposal to All Youth of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences." Deputy Secretaries-General of the Academy, responsible comrades from the Party organizations of subordinate units, and heads of youth work groups, Communist Youth League organizations, and youth theoretical study groups, along with youth representatives, participated in the meeting.
