Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Convenes Working Conference on the Marxist Theory Research and Construction Project
China Social Sciences Network news (Reporter Gao Ying): On June 25, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) held a work conference on the Marxism Theoretical Research and Construction Project in Beijing. Gao Xiang, President of CASS and Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group, attended and delivered a speech. Vice President and member of the Leading Party Members' Group Zhao Rui presided over the meeting. Vice President and member of the Leading Party Members' Group Li Xue松 read the decision on commending the "CASS Excellent Articles on Marxist Theoretical Publicity" for the years 2023 and 2024. Academy leadership presented certificates to the representatives of the authors.
Gao Xiang pointed out that since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, General Secretary Xi Jinping has delivered a series of important discourses focused on strengthening Marxist theoretical research and construction. These discourses profoundly answer directional and fundamental questions regarding the persistence and development of Marxism, while systematically elucidating the goals, basic principles, fundamental tasks, and key priorities of Marxist theoretical research and construction. The Marxism Theoretical Research and Construction Project [1] is a foundational and strategic project for the Party's ideological and theoretical development. CASS has always placed the implementation of the Project’s tasks at the forefront of the Academy's work. In recent years particularly, the Leading Party Members' Group has, with a high degree of political consciousness, consolidated and practiced the "Three Consensuses" [2]. Significant achievements have been made in deepening the research and interpretation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, constructing an autonomous knowledge system, and forging a cohort of theoretical talent, thereby continuously consolidating the guiding position of Marxism in the ideological field. The purpose of convening this conference is to align thoughts and actions with the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important discourses and instructions, implement the decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee, fulfill the requirements for rectifications following Central inspections [3], summarize work, and carry out overall planning. We must use a spirit of reform and innovation to push the implementation of the Project within our Academy to a new level, building CASS into a veritable stronghold of Marxist theory.
Gao Xiang emphasized that Marxism is the most fundamental, profound, and unshakable academic tradition and guiding ideology of CASS, serving as the common theoretical foundation for all disciplines across the Academy. Effectively implementing the Marxism Theoretical Research and Construction Project is the Academy's most important theoretical and academic mission. It is necessary to further deepen the systematic and academic research and interpretation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, continuously strengthen research on the "Two Combinations" [4], and fully demonstrate the scientific nature and truth of Marxism. We must grasp the contemporary requirements that the new round of technological revolution places on deepening research into the basic principles of Marxism, improve the disciplinary layout of Marxist theory, accelerate the construction of an autonomous knowledge system, and create a "Chinese School" that inherits history, continues the cultural lineage, and carries forward the academic tradition [5]. We must accelerate the construction of a talent team with complete categories and well-connected echelons, strengthen the training of young talents in Marxist theory and academic history, effectively manage the "Marxist Theory Backbone Talent Program," and build a highland for Marxist theoretical talent. It is essential to strengthen the Party's overall leadership, innovate management systems and mechanisms, enhance the efficiency of organized scientific research, and increase support and guarantee efforts. This will ensure that the Academy's implementation of the Project proceeds steadily and reaches far, continuously producing high-quality works that can withstand the test of history and the times.
Representatives from various divisions and relevant units delivered exchange speeches at the conference. Attendees included the Deputy Secretary-General of the Academy, responsible comrades from the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Group stationed in the Academy, functional departments, Academy-affiliated units, and units under Academy management, as well as heads of research management offices of Academy-affiliated research institutes, heads of relevant research offices and research centers, and relevant representatives and liaisons.
