Fortify the Dam of Implementing the Central Party Committee's Eight-Point Provisions and Continuously Consolidate the New Pattern of Political Construction with a Rigorous and Prudent Style
Chinese Social Sciences Today (GAO Ying) — On July 4, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) held a report meeting in Beijing titled "Special Party Lesson on the Spirit of the Central Eight-Point Regulations by the Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group." Gao Xiang, President of CASS and Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group, delivered the special Party lesson on the theme of "Fortifying the Dam for the Implementation of the Spirit of the Central Eight-Point Regulations and Sustaining the Consolidation of the New Pattern of Political Construction Through a Rigorous and Substantive Work Style." Vice President and Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group Peng Jinhui presided over the meeting. Vice Presidents and members of the Leading Party Members’ Group Zhao Rui and Li Xuesong attended the session.
Gao Xiang stated that since the 18th Party Congress [1], General Secretary Xi Jinping has proceeded from a holistic and strategic height to deliver a series of important expositions on strengthening the Party's work style construction. These important expositions constitute a significant component of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important thought on Party building and his important thought on the Party’s self-revolution. They systematically answer major theoretical and practical questions such as "why we grasp," "what to grasp," and "how to grasp" work style construction. These expositions vividly demonstrate our Party’s powerful strength of truth and its profound moral strength, elevating the Party’s understanding of the laws governing work style construction to a new height, and providing scientific guidance and a fundamental following [2] for the entire Party to deeply implement the spirit of the Central Eight-Point Regulations.
Gao Xiang noted that in the New Era, comprehensively and strictly governing the Party began with the implementation of the Central Eight-Point Regulations. General Secretary Xi Jinping personally took the lead, and the Central Political Bureau set a prime example, persisting with the "spirit of driving a nail" [3] to continuously rectify the chronic ailments of the "Four Winds." This has driven a complete renewal of the atmosphere and outlook across the entire Party and society, continuously purified the internal political ecosystem, and formed precious experiences with universal guiding significance. Practice has fully proven that the fundamental reason the deep implementation of the spirit of the Central Eight-Point Regulations has achieved such remarkable results lies in General Secretary Xi Jinping’s leadership at the helm and the scientific guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
Gao Xiang emphasized that CASS is a national philosophy and social science research institution under the direct leadership of the Party Central Committee. It must hold high, carry on its shoulders, and keep in its heart its sacred duty to serve General Secretary Xi Jinping and the Party Central Committee, safeguarding the purity and dignity of this academic temple through an excellent Party style, academic style, and institutional style. It is necessary to continue focusing on study, deep self-examination, deepening rectification, and strengthening supervision, using "iron discipline" and a tough work style to drive the Academy's learning and education to go deep and substantive. The construction of the Academy as a political organ [4] must be further strengthened, continuing to deepen the systematized and refined academic research and interpretation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, while accelerating the construction of an autonomous knowledge system [5] for Chinese philosophy and social sciences. Concentrated rectification efforts must be integrated with the rectification of issues identified during the Central Inspection [6], focusing on weak links to improve the effectiveness of these corrections. Discipline and rules must be further tightened to strive for a positive atmosphere for entrepreneurship and innovation, forging a "theoretical and academic iron army" that is politically reliable, profoundly learned, strictly disciplined, and excellent in work style, thereby promoting the high-quality development of all the Academy’s undertakings through new achievements in work style construction.
The report meeting was conducted through a combination of online and offline formats. The Deputy Secretary-General of the Academy, the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Group stationed at the Academy, and department-level leading officials from various units affiliated with the Academy attended at the main venue. All active Party member cadres and secretaries of retired Party branches participated in the study online.
