Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Holds Learning, Education, and Warning Conference on Deeply Implementing the Spirit of the Central Eight-Point Regulation
Reported by the Chinese Social Sciences Today (Reporter: Gao Ying) On July 4, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) held a study, education, and warning conference in Beijing on the in-depth implementation of the spirit of the central Eight-Point Regulations. Gao Xiang, President and Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group, presided over the meeting and delivered a speech. Peng Jinhui, Vice President and Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group, reported on typical cases of violations of the spirit of the central Eight-Point Regulations. Vice Presidents and members of the Leading Party Members’ Group Zhao Rui and Li Xuehong attended the meeting.

The meeting pointed out that convening this warning conference is both a powerful measure to implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech during the 21st collective study session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee [1], and a consolidation and deepening of the results of study and education for the in-depth implementation of the spirit of the central Eight-Point Regulations. It is essential to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on strengthening the Party's work style [2] construction, and to further enhance the sense of responsibility and mission in implementing the spirit of the central Eight-Point Regulations. By using "events close at hand to warn those close at hand" [3], the Academy must continuously foster a clean and upright political ecosystem through strict discipline and rules. CASS must continue to consolidate its new pattern of political construction, which uses the "Three Consensuses" [4] to strengthen the foundation, the "Three Promises" to rectify work style, and the "Three Measures" to guard the bottom line.
The meeting emphasized that work style construction is always a "work in progress" and never a "finished product." It must be deepened within the Academy with higher standards, stricter requirements, and more practical measures. We must remain problem-oriented and "unsheathe the sword" [5] with a zero-tolerance attitude against behaviors of "failing to take responsibility or action" (bu dandang, bu zuowei). We must resolutely break through erroneous perceptions such as the "theory of trivial matters and small details" [6] and the "theory of industry exceptionism" [7]. We must sever the chains of corruption and private gain that exploit special forms of "private plots" [8] of power, and fight the tough and protracted battle of work style construction with a spirit of thorough self-revolution. We must persist in using cases to promote study, reform, governance, and accountability. We must strengthen political responsibility, maintain strategic resolve, and lead work style construction to a deeper level with the firm persistence of being "forever on the road." Every task in the "study, investigation, and reform" process must be carried out strictly and practically to ensure that study and education are profound and effective.
The meeting was held through a combination of online and offline formats. The Deputy Secretary-General of the Academy, members of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Group stationed in the Academy, and leading cadres at the department and bureau level from all affiliated units attended the meeting at the main venue. Active Party-member cadres and retired Party branch secretaries from all affiliated units participated in the study online. A specialized warning education documentary was broadcast during the meeting.
