Call for Papers: The 7th Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Marxist Philosophy Forum and the 2019 Senior Forum of the Chinese Society of Historical Materialism
To grandly celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China; to deeply study, research, and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the CPC; and to promote the research and innovation of Marxist philosophy in our country, the Leading Group for the Construction of Marxist Theoretical Disciplines and Theoretical Research Project of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the Chinese Society of Historical Materialism, the CASS Research Center for National Cultural Security and Ideological Construction, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University have decided to jointly hold the CASS Marxist Philosophy Forum and the 2019 High-Level Forum of the Chinese Society of Historical Materialism in Shanghai in mid-May. The theme of the forum is "Upholding the Dialectical Materialist Worldview and Methodology and the Self-Revolution of the Communist Party of China." The forum operates on a "submission-based attendance" [1] system. We sincerely welcome experts and scholars in related research fields, as well as Party affairs workers from Party and government organs, enterprises, and public institutions, to actively submit papers.
The CASS Marxist Philosophy Forum is a high-end national academic forum under the unified leadership of the Leading Group for the Construction of Marxist Theoretical Disciplines and Theoretical Research Project of CASS. It is jointly sponsored by the Leading Group for the Construction of Marxist Theoretical Disciplines and Theoretical Research Project of CASS and the CASS Research Center for National Cultural Security and Ideological Construction. The forum aims to strengthen exchanges among scholars in the field of Marxist philosophy research nationwide, advance the in-depth development of Marxist philosophy research, and give full play to the role of Marxist philosophy in leading trends of thought, innovating theory, and condensing strength [2] in the development of contemporary China. It has become a renowned forum in the field of Marxist research. The forum adopts a Chairperson Responsibility System, chaired by Professor Hou Huiqin, a famous Chinese Marxist philosopher, theorist, and thinker, who serves as the Director of the CASS Research Center for National Cultural Security and Ideological Construction and President of the Chinese Society of Historical Materialism. The forum was founded in 2013 and is held annually; this year marks the seventh session.
I. Forum Theme: Upholding the Dialectical Materialist Worldview and Methodology and the Self-Revolution of the Communist Party of China
- Upholding the dialectical materialist worldview and maintaining the Party's advanced nature and purity.
- The wisdom of Marxist philosophy and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
- The persistence, application, and development of Marxist philosophy in New China.
- The ideological achievements and basic experience of the Communist Party of China's 70 years of governance.
- Upholding the dialectical materialist worldview and upholding the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics under the leadership of the Communist Party.
- The revolutionary dialectics of transforming the objective world and the subjective world [3].
- The ideological and public opinion struggle surrounding the dialectical materialist worldview.

III. Forum Time and Location
- Meeting Time: May 17–19, 2019. Registration all day on May 17; conference sessions on May 18; departure on May 19.
- Registration Location: 1st Floor Lobby, Shanghai Tianping Hotel, No. 185 Tianping Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai.
- Forum Location: 1st Floor Lecture Hall, Haoran High-Tech Building, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, No. 1954 Huashan Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai.
IV. Requirements for Call for Papers and Related Matters
- Participants should choose their own titles based on the theme. Submissions must be research papers in related fields such as dialectical materialism, historical materialism, the Sinicization of Marxism, and Party building. Arguments must be correct, highlighting ideological, academic, and practical qualities. Length should be approximately 8,000 characters.
- Deadline for submissions: April 19. Please send the electronic version of the paper to lswwzygclt@163.com. The subject line should be formatted as "Affiliation + Name." The organizers will organize experts to review the submissions. Selected participants will be notified in late April to attend the meeting based on their papers and will be sent a formal invitation letter; outstanding papers will be recommended for publication.
- The format of the paper should be: Title, Author's Name, Affiliation (specified down to the secondary unit), Abstract, Keywords, Main Text, with footnotes for citations. Please include the author’s academic resume (title/position, research direction), contact information, and project fund details at the bottom of the first page.
- Due to the limited scale of the conference, only one author per paper will be invited. If there are other accompanying persons, please arrange for their own room and board.
- Conference Fees: No conference fee will be charged. Travel and accommodation expenses are to be borne by the participants.
- No station pick-up will be arranged for this forum. Delegates are requested to proceed to the Shanghai Tianping Hotel for registration on their own after arriving in Shanghai.
