Call for Papers: 2023 Annual Meeting of the New Collective Economy Research Branch of the Chinese Society of Political Economy and the First Rural Revitalization Forum

The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) proposed the comprehensive advancement of rural revitalization, emphasizing the acceleration of building a strong agricultural country and the solid promotion of the revitalization of rural industries, talent, culture, ecology, and organizations. To deeply study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, the New Collective Economy Research Branch of the China Society of Political Economy (CSPE) is scheduled to hold its 2023 Annual Meeting and the First Rural Revitalization Forum in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, from December 23 to 24, 2023. The conference is co-hosted by the New Collective Economy Research Branch of the CSPE and Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics (ZUFE), and organized by the School of Marxism and the School of Economics at ZUFE, along with the Zhejiang Research Institute of ZUFE and the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences ("Zhejiang Research Institute"). The event is co-organized by Marxist Studies (Makesizhuyi Yanjiu), World Socialism Studies (Shijie Shehuizhuyi Yanjiu), World Review of Political Economy (Shijie Zhengzhi Jingjixue Pinglun), Observation and Reflection (Guancha yu Sikao), and the Marxist Studies Website. We sincerely invite teaching and research personnel from national research institutions, institutions of higher education, Party and government departments, as well as rural cadres, to actively submit papers and attend.

I. Conference Theme Promoting common prosperity for farmers and rural areas, and comprehensively advancing rural revitalization.

II. Conference Topics

  1. The relationship between rural revitalization and Chinese-path modernization.
  2. Theoretical and practical issues in the modernization of China's agriculture and rural areas.
  3. The essence of the path of rural revitalization with Chinese characteristics.
  4. Characteristics and requirements of a strong agricultural country with Chinese characteristics.
  5. The realistic foundation for comprehensively advancing rural revitalization.
  6. Case studies and research on rural revitalization.
  7. The practical significance of Zhejiang's "Green Rural Revival Program" [1].
  8. Institutional foundations and practical paths for common prosperity for farmers and rural areas.
  9. Characteristics and development prospects of the new rural collective economy [2].
  10. Issues related to rural primary-level Party building.
  11. Conditions and paths for Party branches to lead the new collective economy.
  12. The "Double-Eight Strategy" [3] and Zhejiang's practice of Chinese-path modernization.

Participants may choose their own perspective and title based on the conference topics to write and submit high-quality academic papers.

III. Time and Location

  1. Conference Time: December 22–24, 2023 (Registration on Dec 22; Rural revitalization field research on Dec 23; Full-day conference on Dec 24).
  2. Conference Location: Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics (No. 18 Xueyuan Street, Qiantang District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province).

IV. Participation Guidelines

  1. Participation is based on paper submission. Experts and scholars are requested to write papers centered on the conference theme and topics. Paper requirements are as follows: (1) Guided by Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the Theory of Three Represents, the Scientific Outlook on Development, and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Papers should closely integrate the study and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC. They should feature clear themes and demonstrate ideological depth, contemporaneity, academic rigor, and innovation. (2) Papers must include an abstract (approx. 400 words), keywords (3–5), author biography (name, gender, affiliation, professional title, and position), and detailed contact information (address, phone, and email) before the main text. (3) The main text should follow the submission style of Marxist Studies. (4) Word count should be approximately 8,000 words, requiring standardized citations and accurate quotations.
  2. The conference welcomes practitioners of rural revitalization, including rural primary-level cadres, leaders of common prosperity initiatives, and "University Student Village Officials," [4] to share practical cases of rural revitalization. Please prepare a conference presentation manuscript.
  3. Please send conference papers and presentation manuscripts in Word format to: mkszyxy@zufe.edu.cn. The file name should follow the format: "Name + Institution + Paper (Presentation) Title." The deadline for submission is November 25, 2023.
  4. The organizing committee will issue formal invitation letters to selected participants and will recommend outstanding papers to important journals such as Marxist Studies, World Socialism Studies, World Review of Political Economy, and Observation and Reflection.
