The Basic Socialist Economic System and the Modernization of National Governance: Call for Papers for the 30th Annual Conference of the Chinese Association for Political Economy and the 23rd Symposium of the Chinese Haipai Economy Forum

In order to deeply study and propagate the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the CPC and the Fourth Plenary Session of its 19th Central Committee [1], to strengthen the research and interpretation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialist Economy with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and to further promote theoretical innovation in political economy with Chinese characteristics, the 30th Annual Meeting is scheduled to be held in Fuzhou City on June 13-14, 2020 (weekend). The conference is organized by the China Society of Political Economy (CSPE), the National Research Center of Socialist Political Economy with Chinese Characteristics (Fujian Normal University), and the Academy of Haipai Economics of the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics; it is hosted by the School of Economics of Fujian Normal University. Co-organizers include the Center for Economic and Social Development of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the Department of Principles of the Institute of Marxism Studies of CASS, and the School of Marxism of Fujian Normal University.

The theme of this conference is "The Basic Socialist Economic System and the Modernization of National Governance." Key topics for discussion include:

  1. Basic thoughts on economic systems in Marxism-Leninism and its Sinicized theories.
  2. Xi Jinping’s discourses on the socialist economic system with Chinese characteristics and its advantages.
  3. The system of fundamental, basic [2], and important economic institutions of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
  4. The connections and distinctions between the basic socialist economic system and future stages [3].
  5. Methods for improving the property rights system where public ownership remains the mainstay and diverse ownership forms develop together.
  6. Methods for improving the distribution system where distribution according to work remains the mainstay and multiple modes of distribution coexist.
  7. Methods for improving the regulatory system of the socialist market economy.
  8. Methods for improving an independent, efficient, and secure system of opening up.
  9. How to resolve relative poverty and narrow the wealth gap in China during the New Era.
  10. The relationship between the system of socialist economic institutions and the modernization of national economic governance.
  11. A comparison between the socialist economic system with Chinese characteristics and Western capitalist economic systems.
  12. A comparison between national governance in socialism with Chinese characteristics and Western capitalist national governance.
  13. Chinese and foreign Marxist political economy and current domestic and international economic trends.
  14. Characteristics and innovations of the New Marxian Economics Constructive School (Haipai Economics) [4].

We sincerely invite teaching and research personnel from national research institutions, institutions of higher education, and other units, as well as members of this Society, to actively submit manuscripts. Manuscript requirements:

(1) The theme should be distinct and the argumentation clear, reflecting continuity, scholarship, and innovation. (2) Citations must be standardized and quotations accurate, with sources noted at the bottom of the page (footnotes). (3) The main text of the paper should be preceded by an abstract (approximately 800 words), a brief author biography, and detailed contact information. (4) The deadline for submission is May 5, 2020. Formal invitation letters will be sent to selected authors by May 15.

Selected papers will be considered for the Society's Outstanding Paper Award of the year, and an optimized collection will be compiled and published by Economic Science Press. Outstanding papers may be recommended to journals such as Marxist Studies, Studies in Political Economy, Contemporary Economic Research, and Haipai Economics.
