Chinese Modernization and Theoretical Innovation in Political Economy: Call for Papers for the 33rd Annual Conference of the Chinese Society of Political Economy
The summary of the theory of Chinese-path modernization constitutes a major theoretical innovation of the 20th National Congress of the CPC [1]. In order to strengthen the research and interpretation of Xi Jinping Economic Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, to conduct in-depth study of the theoretical issues surrounding Chinese-path modernization, and to further promote innovation in the theory of political economy, the 33rd Annual Academic Conference of the Chinese Association of Political Economy (CAPE) is scheduled to be held from May 13 to 14, 2023, in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. The conference is hosted by the Chinese Association of Political Economy and Henan University, and organized by the School of Economics and the School of Marxism at Henan University, alongside the Research Center for Marxist Economic and Social Development of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). Co-organizers include the Central Plains Development Research Institute and the Research Center for Yellow River Civilization and Sustainable Development at Henan University, as well as the editorial departments of Journal of Political Economy, World Review of Political Economy, and Shanghai School of Economics.
I. The theme of this conference is "Chinese-path Modernization and Theoretical Innovation in Political Economy." The discussions will focus on the following topics:
- Marxist thought on the development of modernization.
- Xi Jinping’s important expositions on Chinese-path modernization.
- The relationship between China’s socialist economic system and Chinese-path modernization.
- The relationship between China’s fine traditional culture [2] and Chinese-path modernization.
- The historical origins and theoretical innovations of Chinese-path modernization.
- The institutional guarantees and policy approaches for Chinese-path modernization.
- Leadership by the Party [3] and the fundamental nature of Chinese-path modernization.
- Artificial intelligence, the development of the digital economy, and the latecomer advantages [4] of Chinese-path modernization.
- Commonalities and essential differences between Chinese-path modernization and Western modernization.
- Indigenous characteristics and global significance of Chinese-path modernization.
- The impact of Chinese-path modernization on contemporary capitalism.
- Innovation in the state governance system and public economic theory.
II. Manuscript Requirements:
- The theme should be prominent and the argumentation rigorous, reflecting academic depth and originality.
- Citations must be standardized and quotations accurate. Footnotes should be used at the bottom of the page, with numbering restarting on each page.
- Papers should be submitted in Word format. The body text should be in Size 5 Songti font, with subheadings in Small Size 4 Heiti font, using 1.5 line spacing. The body of the paper should ideally be between 10,000 and 12,000 characters, preceded by an abstract (approx. 350 characters), keywords (3–5), a brief author biography, and detailed contact information (mailing address, mobile phone number, and email).

III. This conference will establish sub-forums for postdoctoral and graduate students. Postdoctoral researchers and current graduate students who are committed to the study of Marxist political economy are encouraged to submit their work.
IV. The organizing committee will issue formal invitation letters to selected authors by May 6.
V. Selected papers will be reviewed for inclusion in the conference proceedings to be published by Economic Science Press. Outstanding papers may be recommended for publication in journals such as Journal of Political Economy, Contemporary Economic Research, Shanghai School of Economics, and World Review of Political Economy.
