Establishment of the CASS Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era

On December 29, the inauguration ceremony for the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era was held in Beijing.

Wang Weiguang — President and Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group ^[1] of CASS — and Wang Xinfu — Inspector and Deputy Director of the Bureau of Theory of the Central Propaganda Department ^[2] — unveiled the plaque for the CASS Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Wang Jingqing, Vice President and Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group of CASS, presided over the meeting and announced the decision of the CASS Leading Party Members’ Group to establish the Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Deng Zhonghua, leader of the Discipline Inspection Group ^[3] of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) stationed at CASS and member of the Academy’s Leading Party Members’ Group, announced the list of academic advisors, academic steering committee members, and representatives of specially invited researchers for the Center. Attending leadership presented letters of appointment to these representatives.

The meeting was attended by Qu Qingshan, Director of the Central Party History Research Office; Zhang Quanjing, former head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee; Teng Wensheng, former Director of the Central Literature Research Office; Xu Guangchun, Director of the Consultative Committee of the Project to Study and Build Marxist Theory ^[4]; Ru Xin, former Vice President of CASS; Zheng Keyang, former Deputy Director of the Central Policy Research Office; Sha Jiansun, former Deputy Director of the Central Party History Research Office; Shao Weizheng, Major General and professor at the Joint Logistics Academy of the National Defense University; Li Shenming, former Vice President of CASS; Fang Li, former Deputy Director of the Central Policy Research Office; Kong Dan, former Chairman of CITIC Group and Chairman of the CITIC Foundation for Reform and Development Studies ^[5]; Zhang Qihua, former Deputy Director of the Central Party History Research Office; Gao Yongzhong, former Deputy Director of the Central Party History Research Office; Huang Haotao, Vice President of the Central Party School; Zhang Shouying, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the People’s Daily and Director of its Theory Department; and Zhu Xiaoming, former Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group of the China Tibetology Research Center.

It is reported that in order to give full play to the role of CASS as a fortified stronghold for Marxism and a base for theoretical innovation, the Leading Party Members’ Group of CASS decided on October 26 to establish the Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, organizing specialized forces to conduct comprehensive, systematic, and in-depth research into Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Recently, the CASS Research Center was included in the first batch of research centers (institutes) for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era established with the approval of the CPC Central Committee.

Approximately 300 people attended the inauguration ceremony, including members of the Leading Party Members’ Group and Deputy Secretaries-General of CASS; responsible comrades from the Bureau of Theory of the Central Propaganda Department; academic advisors, academic steering committee members, and specially invited researchers of the Center; all personnel from the CASS Institute of Philosophy and Intelligence and the Research Center for the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics; and partial personnel from the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies.
