Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Holds Summary Meeting on the Thematic Education of Studying and Implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era
On September 7, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) convened a summary meeting for the thematic education campaign on studying and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The meeting conveyed and facilitated the study of the spirit of the central authorities’ meeting regarding the summary of the first batch and the deployment of the second batch [1] of thematic education. It provided a comprehensive summary of the implementation of the thematic education campaign and made arrangements for consolidating and deepening its results. Gao Xiang, President of CASS and Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group, attended the meeting and delivered a concluding speech. Xin Chunying, head of the 28th Central Guidance Group, attended the meeting. Hang Yuanxiang, head of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Group of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) and the National Commission of Supervision (NCS) stationed at CASS and member of the Leading Party Members’ Group, presided over the meeting. Zhao Qi, Secretary-General and member of the Leading Party Members’ Group, and Wang Changlin, Vice President and member of the Leading Party Members’ Group, were also in attendance.
The meeting pointed out that the in-depth implementation of thematic education throughout the entire Party is a major strategic decision made by the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, rooted in the new journey of building a powerful country and national rejuvenation, and aimed at opening new horizons for the development of the Party’s cause. The Leading Party Members’ Group regarded the implementation of thematic education as a major political task and as a necessary requirement for running CASS effectively in accordance with the requirements of General Secretary Xi Jinping and the CPC Central Committee, thereby opening a new realm for the prosperity and development of philosophy and social sciences in the New Era. By grasping the "Three Consensuses" [2] to polish the political background of loyalty to the Party, basing work on the "Three positionings" [3] to continuously improve the capacity to serve the overall interests of the Party and the state, practicing the "Three Promises" [4] to lead the purification of the political ecosystem and academic environment, and deepening the "Seven Reforms" [5] to promote high-quality development and increased efficiency across all academy work, significant results have been achieved in the areas of "building the soul through study," "increasing wisdom through study," "rectifying conduct through study," and "promoting action through study" [6].
The meeting noted that through thematic education, the cadres and scholars of the entire Academy have gained a more profound understanding that: they must persist in taking theoretical arming as the primary task, unswervingly using the Party’s innovative theories to unify thoughts, will, and actions; they must take the tempering of political character and the practice of loyalty to the Party as a lifelong pursuit, more firmly supporting the "Two Establishments" and achieving the "Two Upholds"; they must carry forward the spirit of thorough self-revolution, persevering in "turning the blade inward" [7] to promote strict Party governance for genuine results; they must focus on the "article of integration" [8], persisting in using thematic education to better drive center-task work and promote the development of the cause; and they must lead the way and set an example, persisting in having the "key minority" [9] demonstrate and lead the "vast majority." It is necessary to earnestly summarize experiences, build consensus for development, and continuously draw wisdom and strength for united struggle from thematic education.
The meeting emphasized the need to earnestly study and comprehend the spirit of the central meeting on the summary of the first batch and deployment of the second batch of thematic education, implementing it in light of actual conditions and consolidating and expanding the results of the thematic education. Depth must be continuously added to the work of "coalescing the heart and building the soul," truly pushing the study and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to take root and blossom at CASS. Excellence must be pursued in research and interpretation, striving to build CASS into a theoretical stronghold and academic high ground for the study, research, and interpretation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Development must be pushed to a higher level, using new responsibility and new actions to promote new achievements in high-quality development. The quality and efficiency of Party building must be improved, unswervingly deepening the comprehensive and strict governance of the Party to provide a strong guarantee for the steady and long-term progress of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics.
Relevant members of the 28th Central Guidance Group, Deputy Secretaries-General of CASS, members of the Academy’s thematic education leading group office, members of the Academy’s roving guidance groups, leading Party cadres at the institute and bureau level from all Academy-affiliated units, directors of Party offices, and secretaries of retired Party branches from the organs attended the meeting.
