On June 15, the Association for the History of the People’s Republic of China (AHPRC) held its Seventh First General Membership Assembly and First Session of the Seventh Council in Beijing, electing a new leadership for the Council, Standing Council, and executive officers. Fifty-nine individuals, including Yu Zhiwei, were elected as Council members; eighteen, including Wang Qiaorong, were elected as members of the Standing Council. Jin Minqing, Secretary of the Party Committee and Editor-in-Chief of the Social Sciences in China Press, was elected President. Vice Presidents elected included Li Zhenhua, Deputy Director of the Institute of Contemporary China Studies (CASS); Song Yuehong, Deputy Director and Head of the Discipline Inspection Group [1] of the same institute; Li Guoqiang, Member of the Academic Division of CASS and Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of the Chinese Academy of History; Zhang Taiyuan, Director of the Department of CPC History Teaching and Research at the Central Party School of the CPC (National Academy of Governance); Gong Yun, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Institute of Economics (CASS); and Zhou Xin, Deputy Director of the PLA History and Military History Research Center of the Academy of Military Political Work, Academy of Military Sciences. Song Yuehong will concurrently serve as Secretary-General. Following established procedures, the AHPRC will promptly report to the Ministry of Civil Affairs to complete the filing and registration of the new Council and its leadership.

Under the firm leadership of the Leading Party Members’ Group [2] of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the new Council will remain true to its original aspiration and founding mission, work with great determination, and adhere to the correct political orientation. Closely centering on its primary responsibility and core business of researching, compiling, and disseminating the history of the People's Republic of China, the Association will uphold its mission of "compiling history for the state, writing biographies for the people, and manifesting virtue for the era" [3]. It will further strengthen its internal construction, closely unite the vast number of national researchers of state history, and conscientiously implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s congratulatory letter on the 30th anniversary of the AHPRC’s founding. The Association aims to truly transform itself into a strong bastion and a theoretical-academic "Iron Army" [4] for the study of New China's history in the New Era—one that is trustworthy, reliable, and useful to the Party and the people—continually making new contributions to promote the high-quality development of New China's historical research.
