Currently, the whole Party is carrying out education on Party discipline. In the process of studying Party discipline, Communist Party members must ensure they study the discipline, know the discipline, understand the discipline, and abide by the discipline, remaining at all times loyal, clean, and responsible. Absolute loyalty to the Party is the fundamental political requirement and the most important form of political discipline. The 500-year history of the development of socialism, along with the great journey of revolution, reform, and construction undertaken by the Communist Party of China (CPC) over more than 100 years, has forged the excellent character of communists. The "loyal hearts" of vanguard models "reach between heaven and earth" ^[1]; name after illustrious name reflects the magnificent and extraordinary journey, sketching out a spiritual map of loyalty to the Party.

The book Loyalty: The Excellent Character of Chinese Communists reviews and elucidates loyalty through the great journeys of Marx, Engels, Lenin, and other proletarian revolutionaries and activists who loyally dedicated themselves to the cause of the liberation of the proletariat and all humanity, as well as through the century-long history of struggle by Chinese communists. It expounds upon the rich connotations of loyalty. In the New Era, the CPC has endowed "loyalty" with even richer meanings. Constant loyalty to the Party, loyalty to the people, and loyalty to Marxism are highly unified in three aspects, together constituting the profound inner substance of the Chinese communists’ concept of loyalty in the New Era. Loyalty is the hallmark of the excellent character of Chinese communists. Throughout Party history, Chinese communists have inscribed their loyalty; they tempered this loyalty during the construction of New China, demonstrated it during Reform and Opening-up ^[2], and manifested it within the history of the development of socialism. This book elucidates the vital significance of loyalty to the Party. Forging a character of loyalty helps to strengthen and consolidate the Party's governing foundation; loyalty is the endogenous driving force for Party members and cadres to press ahead; loyalty is an important guarantee for the Party to prevent and defuse various political risks; and loyalty is a key factor in creating a clean and upright political ecosystem. "The fierce pass is like a wall of iron" ^[3]. In the New Era, Communist Party members must continue to carry forward and cultivate the character of loyalty formed during the Party's century of struggle, take up the baton of the times, and continue to forge ahead courageously to compose a magnificent chapter for the New Era.
