Academic Collection of the Academy of Marxism, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (2005–2025) (5 volumes)

Book Reviews

December 26, 2025, marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Institute of Marxism Studies (hereafter referred to as the IMS) at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). To commemorate this occasion, the IMS decided to organize the compilation and publication of the Collected Academic Works of the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies (2005–2025). This collection includes the most representative academic articles published by comrades working at the IMS since its founding on December 26, 2005 (including comrades who later transferred to other units or retired during this period). With the exception of a few individuals who, for specific reasons, did not provide submissions, essentially every person has contributed one of their own representative articles. It should be noted that although the time span indicated in the title is 2005–2025, the collection of articles was completed by the end of August 2025 to ensure publication within that year; therefore, the latest publication date for any article included is August 2025.

The collection is divided into five volumes, named after different disciplines and research fields of Marxist theory: Basic Theory of Marxism, the Sinicization of Marxism, Research on Party History and Party Building, Research on Scientific Socialism and the International Communist Movement, and Research on Foreign Marxism. Naturally, the actual scope of the articles is broader and not limited to the aforementioned disciplines and fields. This collection is both a reflection of the continuous expansion and deepening of disciplinary construction and academic accumulation at the IMS over the past 20 years, as well as a microcosm of the leapfrog development achieved in the Sinicization and modernization of Marxism during this period. The collection represents both a continuation and promotion of fine academic traditions and a theoretical exploration of the major issues of the era. It embodies the distinct characteristics of Marxist theory—which both inherits a continuous lineage and advances with the times—and demonstrates our IMS scholars’ research and interpretation of the Party’s innovative theories and their steadfast defense of the theoretical frontiers of Marxism.
