The 5th Development Strategy Forum of China, Russia, and Central and Eastern European Countries held in Prague, Czech Republic

On May 22, 2018, the opening ceremony of the "5th Development Strategy Forum for China, Russia, and Central and Eastern European Countries" and the seminar on "National Development Strategy: China and the Czech Republic," jointly organized by the Institute of Marxism Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, was held at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. The Chinese delegation was led by Deng Chundong, Director and Party Committee Secretary of the Institute of Marxism Studies at CASS. Nearly 70 Chinese scholars from over 30 universities and research institutions—including the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, the Central Compilation and Translation Bureau [1], the Shandong Academy of Social Sciences, the Guizhou Academy of Social Sciences, Tongji University, Shandong Normal University, Jiangxi Jiujiang University, Yichun University, East China University of Political Science and Law, and Dalian University of Technology—attended along with foreign experts and scholars, including Martin Pelikán, Vice Rector of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, and Professor Lukáš Pilař, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management. Director Deng Chundong presided over the opening ceremony, and leaders from both sides delivered speeches.

In his address, Director Deng Chundong first expressed his gratitude to the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. He stated that the Czech Republic is a beautiful country with a long history and culture, and that the scholars from China gathered here with great anticipation, hoping for a successful conference. First, he expressed the expectation that scholars from both sides would offer their profound insights on events that influence the contemporary world; second, he expressed the hope that this forum would serve as a vehicle to deepen the friendship and cooperation between the governments and peoples of the two nations.

Professor Lukáš Pilař, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, delivered a speech on behalf of the Czech side, warmly welcoming the Chinese scholars led by Director Deng Chundong. He introduced the university and the faculty and wished the conference success.

The seminar was moderated by Director Deng Chundong. Attending scholars conducted extensive discussions around the central themes. Researcher Zhang Shucun, President of the Shandong Academy of Social Sciences; Researcher Feng Yanli, Deputy Director of the Institute of Philosophy at CASS; Professor Li Aihua of the School of Marxism at Shandong Normal University; and Professor Xu Chengfang, Deputy Dean of the School of Marxism at Dalian University of Technology, delivered keynote speeches respectively titled: "The Responsibility of a Major Country in Building a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity," "The Thought and Global Significance of a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity," "On Improving China’s International Shaping Power," and "On the New Worldview in the Report to the 19th CPC National Congress" [2]. Martin Pelikán, Vice Rector of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague; Professor Rosso Mace of the Faculty of Economics and Management at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague; František Reško, Manager at Czech Telecom; and Martin Partl, Director at the Czech Investment and Business Development Agency, delivered speeches regarding Czech economic development and the development status of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia [3], among other topics, expressing their hope for multi-field exchange and cooperation with China in the future.
