The Academy of Marxism Holds a Symposium and Exchange with the Delegation of Theoretical Cadres from World Communist Parties

On the morning of June 4, 2024, Xin Xiangyang, Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies, organized the reception of and arranged a symposium for a visiting delegation of theoretical cadres from world communist parties, invited to China by the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC). The delegation was led by Nader Chowdhury, Joint General Secretary of the National Socialist Party of Bangladesh, and consisted of 20 communist leaders and young-to-middle-aged theorists from 18 countries, including Denmark, Moldova, the United Kingdom, and Chile. The delegation and relevant experts and scholars from the Institute of Marxism Studies engaged in productive exchanges regarding Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the global significance of Chinese-path modernization, and other issues concerning the international socialist movement.

The symposium was chaired by Lin Jianhua, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Committee and Deputy Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies. Lin Jianhua welcomed Head of Delegation Nader Chowdhury and the visiting group, providing a brief overview of the Institute. In his opening remarks, Chowdhury stated that the "changes unseen in a century" [1] require greater political wisdom, necessitating that all humanity join hands to face and share the future. He earnestly appealed to the members of the delegation to cherish this rare opportunity to gather in China, to conduct in-depth exchanges on theoretical innovation and practical experience, and to take what they have seen and heard in China back to their home countries to share with comrades committed to the realization of communist ideals.

Director Xin Xiangyang delivered a keynote report titled "The Blueprint of Chinese-path Modernization and a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity," which resonated deeply with the delegation and was frequently interrupted by applause. Xin stated that Chinese-path modernization is a vital component of global modernization, promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for humanity by answering a series of modernization dilemmas facing mankind. The 2050 goals of Chinese-path modernization possess a threefold world-historical significance: the path of building a great socialist power, the path of promoting the vigorous development of world Marxism, and the path of redrawing the map of world modernization. Chinese-path modernization has resolved challenges such as the "Huntington Paradox"—the claim that modernity implies stability while modernization implies disorder [2]—and has significantly enhanced China’s national cultural soft power by creating a new human market civilization and a new human industrial civilization. Finally, Xin cited a passage from General Secretary Xi Jinping’s keynote speech at the CPC in Dialogue with World Political Parties High-level Meeting on March 15, 2023, to summarize the blueprint and global significance of Chinese-path modernization: Chinese-path modernization is rooted in our own national conditions while drawing on the experiences of other countries; it inherits historical culture while integrating modern civilization; and it benefits the Chinese people while promoting the common development of the world. It is the broad road [3] for our building of a strong country and national rejuvenation, as well as the inevitable path for China to seek progress for humanity and "Great Unity" [4] for the world.

Research Fellow Dai Lixing, Deputy Director of the Department of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, delivered a keynote report titled "The Global Significance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era." He argued that by answering the major epochal question of "what kind of socialism with Chinese characteristics should be maintained and developed in the New Era and how to maintain and develop it," this Thought has deepened the understanding of the laws governing socialist construction and held high the banner of socialism in the world. By answering the major epochal question of "what kind of great modern socialist power should be built and how to build it," it has deepened the understanding of the laws of socialist modernization, providing a new path for the world to explore the realization of modernization. By answering the major epochal question of "what kind of long-term governing Marxist party should be built and how to build it," it has opened up a new realm in the building of a Marxist governing party, providing Chinese experience, Chinese wisdom, and Chinese solutions for the development of world party politics.

During the exchange and discussion session, Comrade Luis Gárate of the Communist Party of Peru (Red Fatherland) raised questions concerning three areas: changes in China’s social strata and the principal contradiction [5] in society; ideological work and Marxist education; and how to view the development of Artificial Intelligence from a Marxist perspective. Director Xin Xiangyang, Deputy Director Lin Jianhua, and Research Fellow Zhang Jianyun of the Department of Marxist Principles provided frank, concise, and theoretically profound responses to these questions based on concrete realities.

Deputy Director Lin Jianhua quoted the line "A bosom friend afar brings a distant land near" [6] from the Tang Dynasty poet Wang Bo, affirming the friendship gained by all parties through this exchange and expressing the desire for communist parties and theorists from all countries to maintain close contact and exchange with the Institute.

Deputy Director of the Institute Yu Haiqing, alongside researchers He Xinyuan, Sun Yingshuai, He Qin, Liu Ailing, Wang Xuedong, Li Kaixuan, and Lou Yu (who provided Spanish translation), participated in the exchange. Relevant responsible comrades from the Research Office of the IDCPC and the Bureau of International Cooperation of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences also attended the symposium.
