Unveiling Ceremony Held for the Tongren Research Base Jointly Established by the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Tongren University

At 9:30 a.m. on September 18, 2016, the plaque-unveiling ceremony for the Tongren Research Base, jointly established by the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Tongren University, was held with great solemnity in Conference Room 8501 of the Tongren University Administration Building. Participants in the ceremony included Deng Chundong, a Research Fellow and the Party Committee Secretary and Director of the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies; Comrade Li Shuxin, Party Committee Secretary of Tongren University; Professor Hou Changlin, President and PhD; as well as members of various Party General Branches ^[1] of Tongren University, leaders of functional departments, and faculty members from the School of Marxism.

In his speech, Secretary Li Shuxin of Tongren University stated that the collaborative construction of the Tongren Research Base with the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies is a major event in the developmental history of Tongren University. This constitutes not only a significant milestone in promoting the scientific development ^[2] of the university but also builds a new platform for the construction of ideological and political education disciplines and the development of the ideological and political theory curriculum ^[3]. Secretary Deng Chundong emphasized in his speech that this base serves as a vehicle connecting the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies with Tongren University and acts as a platform for multi-faceted cooperation. It possesses significant value for our Institute in pushing Marxist research into the grassroots ^[4], understanding grassroots conditions, and maintaining the consistent line of combining theory with practice. Secretary Deng expressed his expectation that the research base should effectively fulfill its role by highlighting unique research characteristics, adhering to theoretical innovation, and solidly carrying out the construction of the base to serve the Party's central work. He concluded with sincere wishes that the collaborative base would yield fruitful results at an early date.

Secretary Deng Chundong and President Hou Changlin of Tongren University jointly unveiled the plaque for the base and signed the "Framework Agreement on the Collaborative Construction of the Tongren Research Base between the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Tongren University." Secretary Li Shuxin, Dr. Liu Xukuan, and Vice Dean Xu Xingling, among others, witnessed the signing. Following the ceremony, President Hou Changlin also presented letters of appointment for visiting professorships to Deng Chundong, Xin Xiangyang, Liu Zhiming, and Liu Zhichang.
