The Third National "Introduction to the Basic Principles of Marxism" Seminar Held at Shanxi Datong University
From August 5 to 11, 2017, the 3rd National Training Seminar on "General Lectures on the Basic Principles of Marxism" was held in the Shanmei Building conference room of our university. The event was hosted by the Department of Marxist Principles of the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and organized by the Department of Ideological and Political Education Teaching and Research at Shanxi Datong University. Attendees of the opening ceremony included Yu Bin, Director of the Department of Marxist Principles at the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies; Sun Yan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanxi Datong University; and Zhang Li, Director of the Department of Ideological and Political Education (思政部, sizhengbu [1]) at Shanxi Datong University. More than 80 teachers from over 40 universities across the country, along with 15 teachers from the 教研室 (jiaoyanshi [2]) for the Basic Principles of Marxism at our university, participated in this training seminar.

Deputy Secretary Sun Yan delivered the welcoming address, providing a brief overview of our university’s history, disciplinary construction, development goals, and ideological and political work, while expressing high expectations for the seminar. Director Zhang Li introduced the keynote speaker, Researcher Yu Bin. Researcher Yu Bin provided explanations regarding the aims, significance, and content of this training seminar. Deputy Secretary Sun Yan subsequently presented Researcher Yu Bin with a certificate of appointment as a visiting professor.
During the seminar, Researcher Yu Bin conducted a comprehensive analysis of the textbook An Introduction to the Basic Principles of Marxism [3] by interpreting original Marxist works and integrating them with social realities. This enabled the teachers to gain a newer and deeper understanding of Marxist basic principles. It played a positive role in helping the teachers fully grasp the essentials of Marxism, truly appreciate the essence of Marxism, effectively deepen their emotional connection to Marxism, and further solidify their faith in Marxism.
On the evening of the 7th, the teachers held a discussion regarding the teaching of "An Introduction to the Basic Principles of Marxism." The teachers freely expressed their views (各抒己见, gèshūjǐjiàn [4]), sharing insights on teaching "hot spots," ambiguities, focal points, and difficulties. They exchanged opinions on teaching modes, methods, instruments, and experiences, and offered suggestions regarding pedagogical content, problems, confusion, and doubts. Through these discussions, every teacher gained unique insights and professional harvests.

At the closing ceremony, teacher representatives Professor Shi Jingying from Tianjin University of Finance and Economics and Professor Tian Haijian from Hebei University spoke about their learning experiences. Researcher Yu Bin then presented graduation certificates to the participants.
Through Researcher Yu Bin’s profound explanations and meticulous interpretations, this training seminar helped teachers correctly understand Marxist principles and comprehensively enhance their theoretical literacy in Marxism. It is of great significance for improving the targeted nature and effectiveness of ideological and political theory courses in higher education institutions.
