The Party Branch of the Department of International Communist Movement Studies of the Academy of Marxism, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Conducts Thematic Education Research Activities at Honghe University in Yunnan
On the morning of July 10, members of the Party Branch of the Department of International Communist Movement Studies of the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) traveled to Honghe University in Yunnan Province to conduct a thematic education research project. The research visit focused on two main themes: first, the specialized experience of Honghe University regarding the thematic education activities for the in-depth study and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; and second, the current status of the university’s research concerning Vietnam and Laos.
Hong Bo, Secretary of the University Party Committee of Honghe University, received the research team. The symposium was presided over by Ma Hongbo, Dean of the School of Marxism at Honghe University. Participants in the discussion included relevant department heads such as Zhu Xin, member of the University Party Committee and Director of the Organization Department; Yang Shenxuan, member of the University Party Committee and Director of the Publicity Department; Ye Shaofei, Vice Dean of the Institute of Area and Country Studies; Shi Jianguang, Director of the Library; Professor Shao Jianping of the School of Marxism; and Liu Lian, Deputy Director of the General Office.
Honghe University is a full-time public undergraduate institution under the joint construction and management of Yunnan Province and Honghe Prefecture, with the province taking primary responsibility. The university uses the new concept of the "Border-Gate University" [1] to create a new highland for the opening up of higher education in frontier regions. Since its founding, Honghe University has achieved prolific results in conducting research on neighboring countries as well as in teaching and research cooperation.
At the symposium, Pan Jine, Secretary of the Party Branch, introduced the primary objectives of the research team’s visit and provided a brief overview of the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies. Zhu Xin, Director of the Organization Department, introduced the implementation of thematic education activities at Honghe University. These thematic education activities have been fully deployed, focusing on theoretical study, investigation and research [2], cautionary rectification, and the promotion of development. Regarding investigation and research, the focus is placed on twelve specific areas, while simultaneously driving rectification and remedial measures to focus on solving problems in nine major categories. In accordance with the relevant requirements of Yunnan Province, the university will continue to promote in-depth study, supervise implementation, and carry out effective publicity and reporting to deepen the thematic education activities.
Yang Shenxuan, Director of the Publicity Department, introduced the unique highlights of the university's thematic education work concerning the in-depth study and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. For example, the university has adopted methods such as reading groups, specialized counseling, and the combination of "red immersive education" [3] with cautionary education using negative examples to carry out learning activities. Within the thematic education activities, emphasis is also placed on the theoretical dissemination and interpretation of doctrine, as well as international exchange and international communication. The thematic education activities have been conducted in a comprehensive, solid, and effective manner.
Ye Shaofei, Vice Dean of the Institute of Area and Country Studies at Honghe University, introduced the status of Vietnam studies at the university. Honghe University leverages its geographical advantage of being adjacent to Vietnam to serve Yunnan Province’s construction as a "radiation center" [4] for South and Southeast Asia, cultivating integrated talents for regional and country studies. The university has conducted research on Vietnam since 2004 and currently hosts the "Vietnam Research Center" of the Ministry of Education and the "Sri Lanka Research Center" of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission. It has been approved for the Yunnan provincial innovative discipline of "Regional and Country Studies." The "Honghe River Basin Social Development Forum" and the "Honghe River Basin University Presidents' Forum" organized by the university enjoy significant reputation and influence.
Professor Shao Jianping of the School of Marxism introduced the current state of the school’s research on Vietnam and Laos, and Shi Jianguang, Deputy Director of the Library, introduced the current status and advantages of research regarding the China-Vietnam border.
Researcher Pan Jine expressed gratitude to Honghe University for its support of this research activity, noting that the symposium yielded fruitful results and provided insights into the university’s specialized work and active experience in the thematic education of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Researcher Pan Jine believes that Honghe University possesses unique characteristics and advantages in conducting research and cooperation regarding Vietnam and Laos by utilizing its locational strengths, and expressed hope that both parties can further engage in in-depth exchange and cooperation in the future.
